Help my chamelons eye is poorly ....

HELP PLEASE

My Chameleon Rango has a poorly eye she is only about a year old she hasnt been changed tanks and nothing has changed in her tank but he eye wont open. and she seems really odd, she sits at the top of the tank and leans her head backwards like she is about to fall off....any ideas the eye seems sunken in and is a little bit red not bright red but pale red pinkish

I'm sorry I'm not very helpful with this one- but looks like she definitely needs professional vet treatment and antibiotic ointment and possibly general antibiotics. The eye along with your general description of her behavior makes me think she's in immediate need of professional attention- probably bacteria have spread in her system some at this point.

The most common reason for swollen eye(s) in chameleons is hypovitaminosis A (vitamin A deficiency).
i would recommend a supplement of beta carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body, and any unused beta carotene will be excreted unchanged. Vitamin A can be administered by injection; however, it is possible this can result in overdose, so beta carotene is much safer. Beta carotene can also be administered orally, which is easier to do. A vet visit would be the best plan of action.

try getting a small clean squirter bottle and gently squirt some water in itand massage the water out that pointer was given to me by dave weldon

what are you housing your chameleon in? you say "tank" as in fish tank???? sometimes if they have a respiratory infection they will lean their heads back and point their noses in the air? Do you any any noises coming from her when she breathes? The eyes are another issue.

Looks like you need to take her to a vet.

They can point the head up in the air for a number of reasons.

My chameleon is in a exo-terra viv which she came in from the reptile shop i know i said tank i was just trying to write it quickly, We have got a small water bottle from the pet shop and have gentle given a fine mist of water in the eyes direction, she is still very nervous of me and i dont want to stress her out at the moment i will try giving some that vitamin A supp that you sujested, if not off to the vet i go the only problem is the vet i have here is more of a cat or dog kind of place i took the rabbit in once and got the weirdest looks lol...thank you for your sujestions

It doesn't look or sound like vit a problem to me. Respiratory- I doubt it from the photo. With behavior like that- I wouldn't wait a couple of weeks to see if the vit a fixes it before going to the vet. I might do the vit a alongside vet treatment, but I really think you need antibiotics for this one...

I do not know that this is a Vitamin A issue. However, beta-carotene supplements are usually ineffective for treating vitamin A deficiency in chameleons, which is a big part of the problem. Products such as Herptivite are loaded with beta carotene, but won't do diddly with helping a Vitamin A deficiency. Beta-carotene may work fine for you and me, but most chameleons need a pre-formed vitamin A, such as retinal palmitate, or the less effective retinal acetate, not a precursor such as beta-carotene.

It could be a bacterial infection from the tank not being clean or not having proper airflow making it easier for bacteria to build up. You should definitely get antibotics for that and if it ends up healing get her a screen cage instead of glass. Good Luck

Just wanted to say thank you for all your help with regards to my baby rango , i had the vets appointment made for tomorrow morning but unfortunatly she didnt make it she dies about 20 minutes ago ....cheers again people xxxx
