so now that im paying for feeders my self im finding that im having to work pretty hard hard for the extra cash. dont get me wronge i can affford it all its just i would like to have some more cash for when im out with my friends or want something to eat when im alone....so heres the deal. i want to get dubia roaches from the roach guy that i read about in roaches 101, but theres one problem....my mom! she has roach fobia, and shes a nancy!

one time me and my bro were playing soccer in the yard and she was gardening and the ball was kicked in the goal lightly, but it slipped through the net bouced a few times on the driveway and hit her on the collar bone....she threw a fit and thought she broke her nose! so u get my point.

i have tried to convience her that they can breed and that ill have the encloser on top lockdown in a far away place in the oposite corner of the house but its still not convensing her...its cheap and i dont have to use her crdiet car every month to order crix....im only 14, but i pay her right away with cash.

so i need some help...id be paying for all of this and she cant be budged!!!!!!!

what do i do?????????

it should be warm in jersey in the next few weeks store them out side or store trhem out side any way and just buy a heat pad and just keep em warm out side then she cant freak

Tell her they aren't roaches! They are rare cham bugs :) There was a thread here of a kid if I remember correctly that was asking for advice on how to get his mom to let him get roaches. I can't seem to find it for some reason though.

outside was her only option but what about when its 30 degreess and theres 6 inches of snow on the ground???

Is there anyway you could put up a small shed outside for the wind and eventual snow. But you would still need to have electricity if you were going to have a heat pad.

This is your best option :)

she alreadt knows what they are...lol but im working on making a fool proof cage for them.

You can keep outside I'm 10 minutes away from jersey and my dubias are doing fine the weather shouldn't be a problem any more

maybe in the garage? or a closet in the basement. You can keep them anywhere as long as it's sheltered and has electricity

then the basement is a good idea...just the air is nasty cause of litter boxes and its pretty stagnent...the garage is an okay idea.

Perhaps you should just comply with your mothers rules. It is her house afterall. Consider yourself lucky that shes allowing you to use her credit card to purchase any bugs at all, and that she allows you to have a chameleon! Maybe you should work more hours if you want more money.

That said, Have you considered Madagascar Hissing "Beetles" ? dont look like the typical north americian roach, so its possible she will be fooled.

Also consider ordering silkworms, and raising those up, letting a few go to moth and breed those. Most people are not afraid of catepillars.

Superworms are also easy and CHEAP to breed. And even isopods for a treat now and then.

By adding silkworms, superworms and a few isopods to the mix, you will need fewer crickets and thereby have more coin in your pocket.
