Can some one please help me identify the genus and species of this chameleon. I am not very familiar with chameleons and I don't know what kind of chameleon I have here. i just got him or her at an expo and the guy told me it was wild caught and would get green but iv only seen brown and white some times it has a red tail. I am hoping if someone can help me identify this chameleon. and how to make it happy Please see attached.

why did you buy it then lol!!! but it looks like an oustalates I have one and they are awesome brown guys like me!!! hope you got a big pocket cause these guys eat alot growing up but slow down in about 7-9 months to every other day feeding. these guys are true gentle giants my guy really doesn't drink that much but i still mist his cage 3 times a day they love roaches and hornworms. where did you get him from. best of luck with him/her. and your gonna need a big cage so if you get two reptibreeze cages or you can make one for him i'd suggest a 4-3-4 for him cause these guys get as big as 2 1/2 feet long.

Did you get him from the show yesterday in VA?
Yay to another md person! Im in gaithersburg.
How was the show, I wanted to go, but had some other stuff to do.
YOur new cham is cute, love the big white spot on him.
He seems a bit stressed tho.

Side note- if he is wild caught, he should get a vet check done for parasites. they are common in wild caughts.

Did they sell you this chameleon without telling you what kind you purchased, or did you forget? It looks to be a verrucosus or oustaleti (my screen is a little small, I can't see the details), probably WC from the looks of the fat(less) pads.

p.s. these guys stay brown and go tan at night when they sleep. if you want size you got it only thing bigger then him is a parsons!!! they are mellow with good temperments. try only handling him for once a week but let him get use to his new home for 2 weeks. these guys like a said are very laid back and why do they need to stress they are the kings of chams that are available. you will go through 3-4 dollars of crickets a day while he is growing so if you can buy in bulk it will save you money till he gets to his adult size he will move to feeding every other day. any questions pm and i'll answer them for you we have another member with oustalates too.

Went to the manasses one, it was lame. Only cool thing there was one huge snake. There was literally TWO chameleons in the entire thing. Where is the site for the main reptile expos around the US?
