help in fixing a cage

Hello all
I need help to fix a cage.
I recently bought a used cage size 24 24 48, exactly like this one:

It is in decent shape. The only problem is the hinges are all rusty.
I want to change it with a new one, but I have no idea how to take out the old one.
The one that attach to the front is screwed in, so that is easy to release.
but the one that attach to the side looked permanent.

how to take that one out without destroying the cage?
can you give me the link of the tool to buy? thks
and how to attach it back later?
Can i just use screws instead of that thing?

i have no problem attaching vines and stuff.
I use a green wire for arts and crafts for stability (you can get it at Michaels).

but guys?! any tips on replacing those hinges will b appreciated

you need an allen wrench. good luck

You need a dremel tool. If you don't have one just WD-40 the heck out of it and call it good.

they look like an allen wrench or possibly a rivet. in the case of a rivet you need to drill them out. when you are done drilling them out and go to install your new hinge just make sure your screw is slightly larger than the hole. hope that helps.

Just like he said they look like rivots. Just get a bit slightly larger the the inside hole and drill them out. They should come apart easily then. Then you can use screws or whatever depending on what size hole are already there.

Those are rivots no doubt. You will have to drill them out as said. Becareful when you do this. The surround is aluminum and can be deformed easily. Do not apply to much pressure when you are holding it or drilling. Also remember this when you put in different screws.

Take the screws you already have and see what size the rivot hole is. I have a feeling they will be really close if not the same just judging by the picture.

I think if you use screws your door won't close completely without hitting the screw heads.

Use a 1/8 drill bit and CAREFULLY drill out the rivets.....it won't take much. Then borrow, buy or ste......well borrow or buy a rivot gun and some rivets and pop the new hinges back on. Rivet guns are fairly cheap ($20)...and kinda good to have around.

Note that you do not have to use a revit to attach the hinge. Alot of my cages use screws so I can take the doors off easily... Cut or drill it out them just attach in a different local. Easy as pie... Merry Christmas
