hello everyone! im hypnotiq just joined =) just doing some reading im very interested in getting a veiled. my friend who works at petsmart (my go to reptilian lady) has been working with this sweet little girl and would like to see her go to good home and chose me =) i currently have an iggy who's about 3 - 4 months old.. still in training lol moody little bugger he is but anyway. im interested in building my own cage like i did for reptar (iggy) and that's how i fell upon this forum. any ideas and suggestions on what all should be put in there and what kind of wood i should use to make it. I know that pine isn't good for some reptiles and what not so feed back would be much appreciated. do they pefer certain kinds of plants over other weather it be real or fake. I know with iggy's they suggest fake plants for contamination purposes is that so with chams? ill be doing alot more reading but i love hearing for peoples experiences! well thanks and ill be looking forward to responses!

No pine for sure...and yes, you have to do a lot of reading! Have fun here, welcome.

thanks! yes i did about 6 months of research before getting the iggy. but nothing compares to actual hands on for sure! lol that's why i love hearing other peoples stories just to kinda get a real jist of what im going to be dealing with.

Based on what I've read here either fake or live plants will work, but live plants have the benefit of retaining moisture and raising humidity. Just make sure they aren't harmful to the chameleon.

Here's a link to a list of safe plants: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/gerhartrx/523-chameleon-safe-plants.html

Also I don't believe substrate is necessary, not positive though, someone may want to check me on that ha.

Most of the common questions have already been answered in other threads though so you can find a lot of information by using the "Search" tool.

Hi!
I would strongly recommend live plants. Chameleons will eat the plants and it's much better if they eat live plants, plus, as noted, they are wonderful for keeping up humidity. Also, if you use a vine like Pothos you can create walkways for your chameleon with natural plants...

Hello, welcome to the forum :) For inspiration about what and how to build then have a little look at this - https://www.chameleonforums.com/official-enclosure-picture-thread-49688/
Substrate isn't needed, most just use paper towels. Chameleons (not all) live in trees. They shouldn't be at the bottom of the cage.

I'll save DavidBuchan the trouble and give you this link https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs...are-sheet.html

It's great, I use it consistently when working out the odds and ends.
Thank you :)
I was very happy to see this - i don't know if it's just my computer but the link didn't work for me... - here it is again - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html

Hello and welcome! Glad to see you doing research first! A veiled is a great first cham. From my reading, they seem to like to eat on their plant, and also like fruits and veggies. I had planned on giving them to my 3 month old when he got a bit bigger, but caught him with the end of a leaf in his mouth yesterday, so I guess that is his way of telling me it's time! They really are amazing creatures. I have never been so fascinated by any other animal I have had. I swear I could sit and watch him for days and not get bored. He somehow always makes me laugh! You have found the best site for information. Everyone is so helpful!
