Hey there!
My name is Alec and I'm super excited to become part of this wonderful chameleon community! I'm currently living in the west suburbs of Chicago and am attending college where I am interested in majoring in biology! I have been a reptile enthusiast ever since I could catch anoles with my own two hands while in vacationing in Florida and it was all an upward spiral from there.
I have housed several Bearded Dragons, some Geckos here and there, Water Dragons, Anoles, and previously a Veiled Chameleon named Sticky...
Sticky was the last reptile I owned and he passed away several years ago when he was nearly 5 years old. While I believe Sticky lived a pleasant life under my care I now realize that many small mistakes were made and I wish I had not been so ignorant at the time. However, his life did show me just how rewarding and exciting caring for chameleons can be!
It was several years of owning not a single reptile when I finally gave in and could not resist the allure of my old hobby. I decided I wanted another male Veiled and I quickly dove deep into research and preparation. I was pleased at the relative wealth of information that is now available on their proper care. I set up a suitable cage and purchased the necessary equipment and around a week and a half ago. 6/2/2012 I brought the new addition home! I purchased a 5 week old male Veiled Chameleon from an extremely reputable breeder of Bearded Dragons and Veiled Chameleons from Scott Smith's All Animal Expo in my home town. Her name is Cindy Senjanovich and she is truly a wonderful person! I have known this breeder for over a decade and her animals are always so robust, healthy and beautiful! I intended to purchase one of her animals as soon my interest in another Veiled was sparked; and I did just that!
After bringing home my new googly eyed friend I then introduced him to his new home, named his Nasir, and watched him devour 7 crickets first hand on his first day home. Needless to say the last week and a half have been very exciting and quite the learning experience. Even on my second time around, small mistakes were made and preparation could have been even better. I believe Nasir has great potential and look forward to being his caretaker for years and years to come!
Chameleons are truly beautiful and fascinating reptiles and I am so glad to be the proud new parent of Nasir. There is a wealth of information and there are centuries of experience on these forums and I am very excited to be here in order to gain more knowledge myself and even give my novice input here and there! Thanks again; just wanted to say hi!

PS I will be posting the details of my set up, feeding, and supplementation on the appropriate forums in order to get second opinions, and possibly make any necessary changes BEFORE problems arise. Hope to have some pics of Nasir and his set up soon!
EDIT: I have also made a post outlining my basic husbandry here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/hows-my-husbandry-85620/#post803369 Please help me get everything perfect, and ideal!
