Hello From Florida

Hi all, new here and just wanted to say hello. I've been reading pretty much non stop for 3 days now and I love this site. I am a firm believer in the usefulness of a community like this. You all seem to be a wealth of knowledge...Please excuse any newbish questions from me, as I do always try the search first.

I ordered my first Veiled Cham last Friday from FLChams and he should be here tomorrow morning. I'm interested in seeing how they ship a reptile. I've shipped thousands of fish and think I have that down but am perplexed as to how they can make it that long in a sealed box. In fish we use pure O2 to fill the bags. I can't imagine this working on an air breather.


The Cham is sired by Janoris so I'm hoping for some nice colors in him when he colors up. "fingers crossed"

For now he is going to be housed in a 18/18/24" vivarium. But he will be going into a larger screened enclosure as soon as it's needed. I need to go this week and get him a better uvb light. Reptisun 5.0..right? I only have one of those dual purpose bulbs. I didn't know any better. Will this light be ok for the rest of the week or would I just be better off with an incandescent for now?

I'll post tomorrow as soon as he comes in and gets settled in his viv, and let you all know how he is doing.

You got it all down pat, itll be fine just for the week, and they keep chams in a deli cup, or a sac when shipped, nothing fancy.

Up in Jacksonville. Tis my home town but honestly there iArn't many cities or towns in Florida I havn't spent much time in. I spent 10 yrs travling installing phone systems in hospitals all over the state. Not to mention living in FtMiers and Orlando for long term contracts.

Yeah I'm already very interested in some pygmys...Dang it I'm determind to not let this viv go to waist after this guy outgrows it.

I should know better....I have controll issues when it comes to things like reptiles and well my last was aquariums...at one time, over 40 of them running in my house. And I had at least 10 vivs going back as a teen. Everything grom Geckos to Iquanas. This is my first Cham.
