heated misting water

I have read some forums in the past on how to hook up a heating element from a coffee pot so that it heats the water as it mist's. but has anyone ever tried those fish tank heaters and just left in the water so that the water is always warm?

Yeah that is what I do, there are a few concerns though. One being that it needs to be cleaned once a week or it starts to get slimy and grow algea. The second is that you have more water evaporation so you go through water more, not a big deal if you have a big reservoir, but my gallon one needs a refilling every day it seems.
