Heat for the panther baby

Since incandescent light bulbs over 60 watts are seemingly going the way of the dinosaur, what other options are out there? I read that Halogen spot lights can be used for heat. What wattage would be necessary for maintaining the proper basking temp of 82F for a baby panther?

I went to the electrical wholesalers here in the uk and changed out my halogen spots for a halogen flood as the angle is much wider therefore the heat is spread rather than concentrated.

Just a possibility. Generally the wattage should create the same amount of heat but the way the project the heat is different so you will need to play around with different wattages to get the correct temp if using a halogen

I just use the Zoo Meds basking bulbs. They are a little more expensive than a normal incandescent bulb but they are easy to find and the 50W work really well with my setups to keep a nice basking temperature.

I know, incans are getting harder to find in some wattages.

More then 60W at 8 to 10'' away will likely give you more then 82F.
I found that 40W is perfect for babies and montanes, but everyone's setup is different.

You will need a reliable digital thermometer with probe attached to the basking spot to monitor the temp over a period of time.
Also, you can use a 'in line' lamp dimmer if the bulb is too hot.

You just need to experiment with different bulbs.

Incan's seem to distribute the heat more evenly, w/o hot spots, and over a wider area.

I can now only find incan's on Ebay, or Amazon, were I buy them by the case when I find them.
