Heat bulbs?

Ok i have a ceramic heat bulb that, sits on top of of the mesh screen,

I have read that normal desk lamps with a low watt bulb are good? would i be better off with this for now? and use my ceramic thing when she gets big and a new encloser?

Also my heat bulb is on a thermostat, with a probe in the viv that records temps,

So if i set my heat at 80 the light cuts off then, then comes back on when it drops too far crude but works well, although this is usefull ist annoying as hell, clickin on and off,
and also prob annoys the chameleon alot, and i would not thought to good for the chameleon,

And also i drop it like 10 at night, and it occasionaly comes on, surely this would upset my chameleon sleeping?

Would i be better with a normal desk lamp and dimmer type thing,

Or would i be better turning the lamp off at night providing temp does not drop to low, the thing is with have frost and more snow expected so is quite cold?

I use a 40 watt normal incandescent hous bulb to get a temp of about 85 F at 6-7 inches away. I also use a clamp lamp to house the bulb. It's very effective for my needs and I recommend a normal house bulb to all chameleon keepers.

Thanks for the reply, i may buy a desk lamp and see, if its any good,

Im concerned about the thermostat switching the bulb on/off to maintain its temp,

where the house bulb can maintain a steady temp at different wattage, and distance,

hmm gonna try it i think, prob another thing i bought and dont need,

oh well, thanks i will try that, just getting something to clamp on to my viv could be a problem, but im sure i figure it out, thanks

I don't use a thermostat at all and I've been fine for many many years, you just have to have a digital thermometer/temp gun to check the temp. I also have a few different bulbs of different watts just in case I need to switch them out when the temp starts to change with the season.

Good idea about the bulbs im gonna change it i think get a good thermometer, then see if i can get awway without themostat as the ceramic needs one as it soon heats up loads, then cuts out to set temp. cheers:)

You could always just buy an affordable space heater to simply warm up the room. Not sure if you have Walmart there, but I got a sunbeam space heater for $10 US and it works wonders. Now that it is winter here, I keep my thermostat at only 65 degrees F, so it gets very cold at night and day for that matter. However, now that the space heater runs in the room it keeps all the enclosures at a nice temp.

I happened to grab one of those 10 dollar Sunbeam space heaters today at Walmart. That heater is very small, but it does a great job. The temps in the enclosures are now a lot more to my liking.
