is it true that if you wake up a cham it can die from a heart attack??ive heard about this wondering if its true ????

my uncle had a scarlet maccaw Like one of those red and blue parrots that cost like 1500 bucks, he kept it on his patio and a rat got into the cage and he found the dead bird and the rat in the cage, the bird was untouched though. The necropsy showed it died of a heart attack though.

I have never personally witnessed such an event, or even read about it.

I have woke my cham up before, too.

i woke my cham up while sleeping, (he did the free fall defensive move) he didnt die. and is perfectly healthy today.

ya know....it could happen... it's a documented fact that a disproportionate number of heart attacks among humans happen when the alarm clock goes off...but, most people don't die from having the alarm clock go off...so, could it happen? Sure...is that a reason not to wake your chameleon if there is a need to do so? No.

I mean...I wouldn't be in the habit of just waking him up every night because it's fun so see how he reacts, but if you need to do it, do it.

If I need light during the night where my chams are housed, many of them wake up, go kinda crazy, and start chewing on branches and bars.

Fiction

I have been breeding veileds for several years and talk and play wit them all the time. Sometimes I wake them up for late night feedings even if I can't get home before the timer goes off, and in 3 years I have never had one die of a heart attack. Hope this helps.

You wake them up in the middle of the night? Oh boy..

How has that worked out for the chameleons?

not that late

sorry for the misunderstanding. My imers go off at 9:30pm. If by chance I have a late night at work and am unable feed them before the lights go off I will turn them back on for an hour and let them eat. Not in the middle of the night but if it is an hour or so since the lights went out it is not a problem.

was that sarcasm?

i hope so. its quotes like "i woke my chameleon up to feed him" that really tick me off and i usually keep my mouth closed on these subjects (most likely due to the fact that someone more experienced than me has already addressed the point) so if this is the case then whatever gets it through someones head is the only route to take.

one think i love when you weak them up when they are sleeping si their colors get so intense

See...that would come under the heading of doing it just because you can...I think your chameleon would be better off if you respected its sleep time whenever possible.
