"Healthy Cham" has coccidia

Just wanted to share my tale- hopefully it will help someone. My panther, Zeke, looks great, urates were good, no issues to speak of. His eating had tapered off slightly, which I first attributed to his getting into his teens- over 8 months. To be on the safe side, I took him to the vet to get a fecal float. The vet even commented on how healthy he looked. Turns out he has a severe case of coccidia. He is on Ponazuril and I have scubbed everything I can get my hands on with ammonia. Don't wait until your cham looks "sick". Regular fecal floats are a must. I am sick with worry about my little guy.

I am so sorry to hear about Zeke. When my chams have had coccidia they have always been the picture of health. IMO cociddia is the worst and hardest parasite to get rid of. It will also kill your Cham if not treated. It amazes me how many keepers don't have fecals done and then they wonder why they found their Cham dead for no reason.

I am attaching a couple of links for you. The clean up is the hardest part and I highly recommend the 40 volume liquid proroxide. The kind that you buy at a beauty supply store. At least your vet has Zeke on the right meds. The very best of luck with him and please keep us posted.

Thank you for your kind words. He has a great vet- Dr John Rossi in Jacksonville. I am hoping for a full recovery with a lot of hard work.

I hope all goes well for you. Good luck on the recovery of your Chameleon. He will continue to triumph!
