He will only eat superworms

I keep trying to give him crickets but he wont eat them, i cant free range them because they escape.... EVERYWHERE :mad: So i used a few superworms but now he wont eat crickets at all. only worms when i put them on a branch n they start to crawl, i just ordered a new cage i will be able to free range crickets in again but what do i doo till then? He ate 3 worms yesterday and 2 so far today.

Try getting some different feeders and mix them into the cup with the crickets. Mine will eat anything so I am thankful for that. How much do you feed him? He will come around, Chameleons seem to go through a phase.

Some options are:

Dubia Roaches
Silkworms
Hornworms
Mantid's
 
Hes always really scared of me and hisses at me. he used to eat from my hand but wont anymore. :( i put a bowl in there with the left over dead two crickets and a few superworms. I ordered a cup of hornworms (24 count) online last week that shipped. Hornworms can be a primary feeder? like crickets or roaches?:eek:
 
Check the Food section at the bottom of the forums. Many people sell different feeders, just explore. Don't be near him when he eats then he might not eat.
 
Superworms should be used as a treat. Your cham tasted them and likes them, now this is what he wants. Wouldn't you blame him, he may have gotten bored with the same food. Try offering a few different feeders as already mentioned.
 
O'hell with it. if you feed super worms and you believe it is necessary to use these as part of your diversified feeder regement. be sure to gut load them properly and only give them a few times a week.

if he is taking nothing else. hold your ground and keep offering other feeders. for him to get an appetite for other foods may take a while.
 
he really needs another feeder to be offered as a staple in his diet. super worms are nothing more than a snack because they lack good nutrition. thats why they are referred to as a "snack" feeder.

i strongly suggest using:

1. crickets or dubia roaches - properly gut loaded as a "staple".

2. silk worms, horn worms, butter worms, moths, butterflies, flies, mantis and occasionally meal worms as "snacks".

agreed. He can only eat supers if you continue to offer them to him.

Try to let no one feeder make up more than 20% of your chameleons diet.

I don't know if I'm just lucky but I have 17 adult and sub adult chams right now and they will all eat whatever I feed them. I currently have supers, crickets, and dubia roaches. They are all well fed, spoiled if anything. I always wonder about a chams health when I hear that they will not eat one feeder or another. I have had a sick cham or two in the past that could only be "enticed" to eat superworms but in general my entire gang will eat any feeder readily. I feed them different things depending on how much time I have. Tossing crickets in being the fastest or tong feeding dubia or supers to each of them when I have more time. I also use my dowel rod or "walk the plank" technique for dubia roaches. It allows me to get the roach close to my chams without having to get my hands in their cages.

They will not eat dead crickets...
