There is alot debate over Temps for chameleons and what they can handle or be comfortable with. Living in Florida my Panthers are outside almost all year. It gets hot. It does not kill them. If I see them stressing over the heat, I bring them in. Veilds live outdoors in the wild and thrive. Is your chameleon gaping? If not, chances are he is not too hot. If the whole cage was 96 that would be a different story. Maybe I am playing Devils advocate here, but am just stating my opinion. Maybe find a happy medium and lower everything 5 degrees all around and see if he doesn't become more active
