Hard Water?!

I hate my hard water and I would rather use something else. I think it has actually built an unnoticeable thin layer of calcium on the plants so the water doesn't bead up on them anymore.

:(

Would distilled be a better solution? at least for a little while? I don't know a good spot to get RO water.

One question I always had was could hard water build up enough on UVB bulbs to block a good amount of UVB?

You can buy a osmosis filter, they are usually sold where salt water aquarium accessories are sold. Its commonly called reversed osmosis, the water you get is very good for misting. I use this filter myself as we have some of the hardest water in Sweden where I live.

Is there a such thing as an economic model? something cheap, small, and doesn't require home installation?

We used to have good water here at the house, untill my pop accidentaly spilled his Viagra down the sink...... Now we have hard water..

Depending on how often your misting, you may find the drinking water machine at your local supermarket to be a option. It's like $.25 a gal if I remember correctly.

I lol'd on that one!

You can buy big gallons or 2.5 containers of RO water at most grocery stores. Walmart has the cheapest ones obviously. Just read the labels and most say if they are just spring water, or if they are filtered and are RO water. I know at Genuardis their Safeway brand water is RO and filtered and the gallon jugs are a dollar something and the 2.5 gallons are 3 bucks.... hope this helps :)

you might be able to buy RO water at a local salt water aquarium shop. I get mine at one since I am in a apartment right now. Also check you local grocery store.

Today I missed out on a 5 stage ro filter for 75 bucks on craigslist. Only 3 months old. I need this so my nozzles will stop clogging.

DI only

That DI filter I linked you works well. But eventually the resin needs to be replaced. The harder your water the faster it wears out. So in the long run it's going to be cheaper to go ahead and invest in an RO system.

Thanks guys! I went to the store today and found Sunnyside purified RO water for $.85/gallon. Then I noticed the purifying machine outside only charges $.35/gal. i'm not using a ton of water a day so that should suffice for now. Plus I live in an apartment and can't modify anything.
