Here is Maynard (named after lead singer of TOOL, Perfect Circle etc). I dont know if chameleons can feel emotions. I wouldn't put it past these amazing reptiles. But this little guy loves falling asleep on me while I pet him. But when he sees me with Mazzy (my fav song. Mazzy Star "Fade into You") and Miwa ( my daughter's anime character), he will start puffing up at me when I get to him.
So I am re-establishing my relationship with Maynard. He does this often.

So this is actually not a sweet thing or a sign of trust. This is actually a stress response and what they do when they are over stressed and shutting down. Healthy chameleons will not fall asleep on people. It is not a natural thing for them.

He comes out to me when i am feeding him. I dont force him to be in my hands. Every chameleon is different. I think of these chameleons as my own kids. We are very attentive and aware of the signs of stress. But thank you for all the info.

So I am not trying to down play your bond... BUT falling asleep is by no means him showing love. In chameleons it is total shut down and stress response. OR if you have him out in the dark he is simply shutting down and falling asleep. The same as if you take a cham and put them into a dark box to go to the vet they fall asleep due to the darkness.

I want to make sure you understand these are not like mammals. They are not cute and cuddly little cats that want to curl up on you and sleep. This is what we look at as a very bad sign when a chameleon does this.

Many of us our able to hand feed our chams. Some will continue this after maturity and come out onto their keepers hands. Others once going through maturity become less inclined. Some come out of a cage in search for what they need. In some cases this is a direct reflection of the cage not being set up with the proper things as in live plants, branches, proper heat temps, and UVB lighting. They look for what they need. If people put cages on the floor I have seen where the chams will always immediately come out. once the cage is lifted so the cham is high this behavior reduces because they feel safe as they are now sitting at eye level with the humans walking up to them.

I am aware they are not like mammals. But if my chameleon wants to come out to my hand when feeding him than im not going to deny him. He loves his new enclosure that we built for him. But I see i gotta be careful what I post or its going to be criticized even though we did all our research on lighting, feeding, the enclosure, etc. We already know these are highly evolved creatures that need attentive care and everything needs to be perfect so our chameleons will thrive. He likes being close to the ceiling so we made both of them 7 feet high. But thank you. I shall just read. Have a good day

I can not let you post a picture of a chameleon sleeping and not say that it is not a good thing. Because what you have to remember is you are not the only one reading your thread. Right at this moment we have 635 guests reading threads in the forum. I do not want someone that is new seeing that and thinking that is ok for their cham to do that or that their cham should do that.

Yes, let him come out onto your hand... No, to letting him fall asleep there. That is where the health risks are not the him coming out.

He may also be falling asleep on you because the cage is warmer and brighter and it thinks it’s time for be

We see different personalities with each of our chams. But thank you for the information. Wont post any offensive pictures on this page anymore.

We see different personalities with each of our chams. We dont force them to bond w us. We already know they are docile creatures that like to keep to themselves. We keep them in our room to avoid all visitors bothering them like its a zoo. And we keep that bond with oir chameleons by keeping them in our room where they will only see us. But thank you for the information. Wont post any offensive pictures on this page anymore.

Its not offensive... It is a learning platform for every single person that comes here and reads the threads.

We have had our chameleons since the middle of March. From observing them they are stronger than when we got them. But I will be done posting pictures. Thanks

Good that they are stronger and that you are interested in helping them…but things can go south quickly if there are certain husbandry things not addressed. We are only looking to help you avoid some of the possible issues that could develop and not show signs of health issues until it’s too late.

We are not intentionally gruff…we just want to help you avoid issues before they happen and the chameleon suffers or dies as a result.

And yes like I said we are taking everything serious and rechecked our bulbs and pulled the moss out. Corrected the lay bin and dug our own test hole to see if it holds up. And of course flattened the sand out so we can see any signs of her digging. Covered her cage. I posted a few pictures of the enclosures and her covered enclosure etc.
