Handling, trips outside?

I have had my veiled for about three weeks now. He is about 3 months old. I have only taken him out twice and he stays very bright in color but moves super quickly up my arms and I'm afraid he may fall off of me so I've just been trying to spend a decent amount of time in the room we have him in (our office so he isnt bothered by our dogs or our daily activities). I have sort of attempted hand feeding but he doesn't seem very interested. I want to take him outside because the weather here is perfect for him but am not sure what steps to take to get him more acquainted with me.

Buy a ficus or schefflera and place him on it from your enclosure. Take the plant outside with him on it and let him catch some rays while you watch him closely.

I have a hibiscus and schefflera in his cage now so I could just take one of those outside with him. Im just worried he would scamper away lol

Well.....He might give it a try. Keep an eye on him at all times while he's outside with you. If he decides to explore, re-direct him back into the plant. Lucky does this all the time. I just extend a hand, he climbs on and back into the plant he goes.

I can't emphasize enough MSMorgan's advice to keep an eye on him at all times. Chameleons are sneaky and quick, and it's so easy to lose sight of them, especially when smaller.

I have a screened in porch that gets a little sunlight during certain times of the day so I may just start with that. Im pretty paranoid so I will not be taking my eyes off of him.

If you take your cham outside of the screen porch make sure he is in a cage. Even if you are watching a bird could come and eat your cham. I live in Wisconsin and I know a guy whos dog was eaten by an owl. He had a mini doberman pinscher and took it out to use the bathroom and an owl came down and flew away with his dog.

My uncle had the same thing happen. Well, not really the same at all. It was a bald eagle instead of an owl, and it took off with his huge pet rooster, "Mr.Clock".

Isn't nature fun?

Thats why I have a big dog, I don't have to worry about him being eaten by birds just wolves.

I left the cage door open for 2 minutes to clean my female ambilobes fountain and poof! Gone...all the way to the tree on the other side of my room! Be very careful! :)

Be careful with animals outside. Hawks can and will take a small lizard or pet bird right off your shoulder, especially the hawks in the Accipiter family. They are a very bold hunter. It is nesting season--they all have babies and a high demand for food. Accipter hawks (Sharp Shinneds and Coopers Hawks) are very common and pretty much everywhere. They've adapted very well to cities. They hunt in the forest canopy, so seem to come out of nowhere.

Wow it sounds like it could happen like quick with a hawk. We have one around I put mine in a cage outside. But I will be very careful.
