Handling Scratches

Hey everyone!

I am rearranging my bedroom to make room for my veiled’s new cage. Unfortunately, this meant I had to handle Rango as I didn’t want him to be in his tank while I moved it.

Anyway… every time I handle him, he leaves tiny scratches that get incredibly irritated within minutes. Is this normal? I know chameleons often have a tight grip… but does anybody else get cut up from it? 😅

Welcome to being a cham-om... those little red bumps are from little foot... 💕

Excuses the bit of hornworm gut on her face. Clearly not happy I took her out for a weigh and cage clean. 🤣

Mine are crawling all up my arm… but at least I got a tail curl picture! Hopefully the last one until Rango gets his cage 💚

Also, I love how chams have that little frown… it makes them look so cute when they try to be scary 😂

I couldn't even imagine trying to hold little foot still to trim her nails. 🤯

The little foot isnt the problem. The little head trying to nom nom you is. You wrap in fluffy towel, and try to find a foot.

The tegu isnt much fun either. You basically bend over and grab a foot, and then walk with the tegu while clipping. Lucky there is no nom noming involved.

I only have to do it once a year, just to keep the kwick from getting too long.
