Gut loading

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew if it's bad to gut load with bok Choy, green beans, zucchini, bananas, and peas?

Okay, yes. Best choices? not really, unless used in combination with other vegetables.

Bok Choy is probably the healthiest of all the cabbage family, but being Goitrogenic it can inhibit iodine uptake. Not a problem with occassional use, but possibly an issue with regular use (and also depending on if you include iodine rich foods, like kelp, in your gutload as well). Its a good source of calcium, and vitamins C, K and Bs. I include bok choy in my gutload now and then, though not often.

Banana has a lot more Phosphorus than Calcium, and its better to have the opposite ratio in your gutload.

Beans generally also have the wrong calcium to phosphorous ratio, although including some beans in your gutload is quite acceptable. Green snap beans are pretty good, with the C : P ratio not too bad and providing Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron and Copper, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Folate and Manganese.

Peas usually have far more Phosphorous than calcium. They provide Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Thiamin and Manganese but you can get these things from other sources. Also contain Goitrogens (but not so much as to worry a great deal about it).

Zuchini isnt bad, although again has more phosphorous than calicum. But it offers Thiamin, Niacin, Copper, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Magnesium, Potassium and Manganese. A winter squash, like spegetti or butternut, would be a better choice.
