I haven't tried feeding them to my Veiled yet, but have planned on it for a while. You may want to disarm the grubs, but it's your call because they can pinch pretty hard, but I would think that a nice sized came could handle a big one. Oh and the grub I'm talking about is Eastern Hercules Beetle Grubs (the beetles eat fruit and bark/sap from Ash Trees and the grubs eat rotten wood and plant matter, so in my mind they are safe); they are really big but if it's a little smaller it could be a few other types of beetle grub or just a smaller EHBG. If there's any way you can post a pic of one I could probably tell you exactly what it is.

Hmmm? That is a little on the small side, so it's hard to tell if that's
a Eastern Hercules Beetle grub at an early stage or just some other
beetle grub. I think, though, that the EHBG's always have dark,
maroonish mandible areas, not light orange, but I may be wrong.
This also could be a June Beetle grub, which I'm pretty sure eat
about the same thing as EHBG's, and if so should be safe. There
are other beetle grubs that look like this, but I can't remember what
they are called, but I think they all generally eat the same thing and
are safe. So most likely it's a June Beetle grub and is safe :).
 
I wouldn't feed any off until you know what it is. Grubs can be great, but only if you know what kind of beetle it's from. You can always raise them in compost/leaf litter (possibly add a little fruit to see if it's a fruit beetle grub) and see what they turn into.

i compared images from google to mine, and my grubs look identical to the june beetles. and theres tons of those beetles around here..they eat my moms roses :rolleyes: but ill try and raise them to see what they are just to be safe :p are june beetles safe to feed?

I'm not sure. I can't kind find out anywhere if roses are toxic to chams and if so, then you would think that the June Beetles would be toxic, since they're eating your mom's roses. But if you were to catch some of them and feed them fruits and veggies for a while to clean out their systems, not sure what they eat and if they will eat fruits and veggies, but if they were to eat them then that would make them safe, so long as the only toxicity they produce comes from eating roses.

ill have to look around, but if i can raise the few grubs i have and they do happen to be june beetles, maybe i can start a colony of them and raise them on foods that arent toxic :) but they are a beetle, which means they should be fed as a treat once in awhile because of their exoskeletons :/

That sounds great :). You know, my first thread was about doing the same thing for the EHB's. I'm just going to feed the grubs fruits and veggies, along with the beetles, and use the grubs as feeders for Hawk and let the beetles stay to reproduce. But first I have to find some grubs to start it off though :rolleyes:

i just started a woodlouse(pill bug) colony today :) they are super easy to keep and breed...i hope my colony explodes and then i could sell some :)

Good luck with that :). Any little thing you can do to earn some cash certainly helps lol. And BTW those were pill bugs in with the grub weren't they? I recognized them as what I've always called them as rollie pollies :p.

For the thread: Remember though that June Beetles and June Bugs are not the same insect :). I am almost certain that June Bugs are the small brown beetles and I know for sure that June Beetles are the larger green ones.

well then..they are very similar :/ i guess ill have to see what my grubs are first..i hope theyre brown ;)
