Hello all. I have been lurking here for a couple of months. I have kept reptiles for the last 15 years, but never chameleons. I intend to try my hand at panthers this year and am trying to gather any insights that I can to help me put together the best enclosure and conditions possible when the time comes.

I've been keeping tegus, monitors, a uro and a tortoise over the last 10 years. I also kept a GTP for a couple of years before I sold it this past September. My wife and I are now parents to 1 yr old, and I was no longer comfortable keeping tegus, pythons, and monitors in the house. All animals but the tortoise, a South African leopard, and the uro have been sold.

Chams started to grab my attention fairly recently. Other than their obviously fascinating appearance and mannerisms, I really like that they can be kept with live plants. I've always been a pretty hands-off keeper, so this also works well with chams.

Anyhow, I'm going about preparing for my first cham as methodically as possible and as slowly as necessary. I've set up thermometer/hygrometers around my reptile room, and have also bought a humidifier. I want everything to be in place when I purchase, as opposed to learning on the fly.

Looking forward to learning a lot here.

You will learn a lot here and likely become addicted to chameleons. :D it may take a while though for other responses because most members are in the us and are asleep but soon you will realizes how amazing the community is here. Have fun!

Welcome to the forum!

sounds like you are going to make a great chameleon keeper.

where you live, your environmental conditions, will factor into the type of caging/enclosure you use.

Welcome to the forums, there is so much information here. Not only on chameleons but on feeders and feeding the feeders! I have successfully raised silkworms and got eggs! I also have some hornworms pupating and hope they will hatch out in the spring. I have roaches, crickets, phoenix worms and butter worms. I really enjoy my two boys, and I also take care of my granddaughter's beardie. If I had the room and the $$ I would have so many more!
