What colors do they show when theyre gravid? I have a female ambanja.

Also, how do you tell if theyre holding eggs?

My female is walking on the bottom of her cage. Im thinking shes looking for a place to dig.

You should be able to palpate the belly using your thumb and pointing finger. Try and do it when she is relaxed they can tighten up and make them hard to feel. Pinch around gently near the back of the legs and belly area.

She would look something like this

Wow she almost looks exactly like that. Im scared to touch her cause shes been really pissy as of late. everytime i get near her she gets crazy so i just let her be.

Should i put her in a bucket with soil so she can lay eggs?

Yes, if she is old enough she needs a laying bin.

I use 50% sand and 50% peatmoss. If all you have is clean soil use it. Get a laying bin in with her ASAP.

Shes in a bin right now, but shes not showing any interest in digging. I dont want to touch her cause shes mean as hell right now. Is there any other way of seeing if shes gravid? Sometimes she looks really fat, and then other times she looks skinny.

ok, so after all the hissing and the gaping mouth of terror i got to hold her. I felt around her belly but didnt feel anything close to eggs. I didnt feel anything. Could it be possible that she is just showing those colors? being receptive?

That's a different search. :)

When you put her with a male how does she act. If she turns light pink she is receptive. If she looks like the picture of pumpkin I posted she is gravid.

Remove her if she turns black and orange and rejects the male. she does look like she could be receptive.

My male is only five months old =P

Shes more of a peachy color than that really dark colored female previously posted. I think she could be receptive instead of gravid.

I was just scared that she kept walking on the bottom of her cage. Im going to start building her and grimaces new enclosure this weekend. Im going to make hers with a built in laying bin.
