I put my male veiled in with my female today and she gapped, went black and swayed from side to side. is she gravid? She isnt showing any gravid colours and she is 1 yr old. she has never shown receptive colouration and she and the male have never 'connected' if thats the word lol

Well...if she's never been in with a male, then she's not gravid. (If she's been in with the male and you have not watched her the whole time, then she could be gravid.) Her reactions (she gaped, went black and swayed from side to side) to him are showing that she is non-receptive.

Couple of comments...have you got a place in her cage for her to dig in case she needs to lay eggs?

Its normal to put the female in with the male, not the other way around. IMHO...its best not to put them together until you are sure they are both receptive to each other. By holding the female outside the male's cage so they can see each other you can watch the reactions. If the male recognizes that she is a receptive female and does not behave in "aggressive mode" and she remains her paler colors, slowly moves away from him, doesn't hiss, sway or gape, then you can put her into his cage...but continue watching for a bit to make sure that they are behaving well towards each other.

Wouldn't you know if she was gravid?? I had to try twice before my female accepted the male. The first time I tried introducing her to his tank (well outside of the cage) and the second and third I introduced him to her, it didn't seem to stress her out as much. It was obvious the first two times that she was not impressed and definitely not interested. The third time she was all for it and 22 days later she laid 19 eggs.:D Make sure you have all you stuff ready, your bin for her to lay in which should have at least 8 inches for her to dig in. I couldn't believe how far down she dug. I had about 13 inches and when I dug for the eggs I was wondering if she actually had any because they were so deep. Good luck and don't force them it will happen when she is ready! The eggs hatching is the hard part... WAITING!
