My yemen has been digging for about a week now (pretty sure shes gravid) Shes climbed up her plant for a while, then goes back to digging. Doesnt look any skinnier so dunno if shes layed. Will she stop digging completely when shes layed ? How will i know if shes becoming egg bound ? Trouble is im due to move south in a few days !! This is her very 1st clutch. Any advice appreciated

Hi there, welcome. So how far are you moving, from where to where? And how are you transporting your chameleon? Is the clutch fertile or not? If the clutch isn't fertile and you are at the point of having to move her I would put her in a very large covered laying bin, like a tub from walmart with sand and holes in the top for air. You will need to be very, very careful that bin doesn't tip over. In fact that bin would ride right next to me.:):)

Has she seen you watching her when she is digging? If she can she will likely abandon the hole feeling that its not safe. If it happens often enough, she could become eggbound.

Is the container large/deep enough?

This is the way it should go...a female may dig several test holes but she should finally decide on one and continue digging in it until she is satifiied with it. This may take several days. She should then turn around butt down (usually at night) and lay the eggs. It can take several hours or overnight. She should then fill the hole in and tamp it down and return to the branches.

Signs of eggbinding include but are not limited to lethargy, sunken eyes, sitting low in the cage, not eating, etc. Sometimes they will dig a hole, turn around butt down for a while and then fill the hole in having not laid the eggs.
If a female shows signs of eggbinding its important to act quickly and get her to a vet.

You said..."Trouble is im due to move south in a few days !!"... she should be done in a few days if all goes well.

Leave her ALONE, if you even look in on her right now she may quit laying. She just may need a few more hours. Sometimes they get "tired" I don't know and stop for a while. Just don't disturb her. If you stay away she will finish , egg bound isn't usually in the middle of laying, it is prior to starting to lay. Just hang in there.

janeann10uk...In post #5 in this thread I listed the signs of eggbinding and told you not to let the chameleon see you when she is digging...did you even read the post??

i have peeped round the towel once and glimpsed at what looks like an egg in the tub I have to monitor her somehow as i am due to move 350 km in 2 days time and may have to change arrangements for her
