well after doing lots of research and looking around, i finally made it out to the columbus reptile show and bought this little guy. his name is baggans. how does he look? the only question i have is how long is it safe to take him out of his cage and let him climb in plants in a sunny window or in out large rubber tree? he seems to really like sitting in the sunny window looking at traffic.

Congrats! Cute little guy...

It would be better if you could open the window, or actually take his cage out into the sun for a few hours as long as temps permit. The UV that is allowed to pass through the window glass is not enough to benefit your cham in any way other than heat.

i know its not giving him the UV he needs so i was wondering how long it is ok that hes not being exposed to his UV lamps. he loves sitting in the window and climbing our huge rubber tree, and we like having him around anyways

You could hang a light above the area he likes to hang out in. I believe thats what is done for free range chams. Veiled males have spurs on their back feet.

You know what he's thinking.

*thought bubble* HAHA, how can i make this sucker panic and escape into the wilderness, only to show up 3 days later at teh front door making him look stupid for tearing his house apart.

the guy that sold it to me said he was male, but i wouldnt know otherwise
Ditto, that looks like a female to me? Smaller veil, and no extra spur on the rear legs, and no so much colouration

My male VC who's approx 8" in overall length is quite happy to be out on his vine perch for an hour or so everyday. I normally do so in the afternoon after he's had a few hours to warm-up, eat etc.

Handling him everyday has several benefits, it gives me a chance to look him over, also I mist him so I know he's had a drink + it helps keep the humidity down in his viv. Also it's good exercise, and he gets used to being around human company. In return he gets a couple of meal/wax worms as a treat.

If he's been out to long he just stops, and clings to a branch, but once back in his viv under the basking lamp he soon warms up and gets going again.

Nice cham and hope he brings you many hours of pleasure, I know mine has.

You all need a better (clearer) picture of the back foot before sexing that chameleon.
Color and casque are no indication at this age.

yeman chameleon males have a little nodule on the back of ther heels on the back legs from babys this is obviouse ,he does look like a she to me too though as its quite noticable!! otherwize he/she looks great, he/she has nice colours to, he should be ok out for a while asd long as you keep an eye , put him on a nice ficus tree with a drippwer over it so he dosnt get thirsty but just watch the glass though as u.v is filterd out almost compleatly through glass and this could get very hot for him so he wont be getting anything but heat and things to look at , better to get a screen viv put it outside on nice days or if you havent a garden have the window open on nice days and watch the heat in his viv as he may not need it on if your in hot contrys on warmer days just the u. v .
