Got a new cham today!

Hi all, I used to post on here back when I had my jacksons. Unfortunately, he got sick and no matter what I tried, couldnt recover. That was a few months ago. So after just having an empty cage sitting on my desk, I went out shopping today.

I know people on here hate the big box stores, but I checked them anyway just out of curiosity. One petsmart had a clearly sick jacksons for $130!! I was shocked at the price alone. So after doing that, I decided to go where I knew I would end up which is a local reptile store. He specializes in reptiles exclusively.

I was surprised to see that what I wanted was fairly cheap too. I got a young male Veiled. I had a female veiled years ago. The guy at the store said he was about 3-4 months old. I want to get some pics up on here to see what you all think, but my phone is not taking pics at the moment and thats the only camera I have. Ill have to wait for my gf to come over fri.

He looks pretty happy in his new home so far, got him a brand new light, cleaned and sanitized all the vines and what not I had in there for my jackson. Went out and bought a timer this time.

Saw him drink a little earlier, not much. Just threw 4 crickets in and nothing yet, but im just chalking that up to getting used to his new spot.

Im sure ill be back with some questions and glad to have a new cham.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss :(
It bothers me how some stores just try to sell sick animals to people and then some of them don't know they're sick, so they think they did something wrong and blame themselves for either illness or their death. I wish the people at the stores would take care of them. I feel really bad for them.
I'm very glad to hear you got yourself a veiled chameleon. They're really cool and I heard they're easy to maintain. I'm getting myself my very first chameleon next week (baby veiled male). So far you're doing well with your chameleon. Just make sure he gets adjusted to his new home. He will eat eventually so don't worry about it. I'm looking forward to the pics! Welcome back to the forums! :D

sorry for the loss
but at least you got a new cham, I bought a veiled chameleon from petsmart and within a week i noticed it was ill it took me three months to cure him but now he is healthy
but anyway good to hear about your cham

Thanks Mcseb, Im happy to say though, I just saw him eat one cricket, well chew one cricket. I missed him catching it.

Good luck with yours.

Oh no problem, Matt. I'm just here to help anyone out as much as I can. That's great that he ate one cricket! You'll eventually catch him catching it don't worry!!!

Best of luck with your new boy! I was lucky with my Petco boy, but only purchased him to get him out of the enclosure with a much larger male. I got tired of seeing him trying to avoid this giant male in a tiny box, so I took my wife to see him and the rest is history! Plenty of great advice from this forum has helped me raise my boy. Welcome back!!! (When is she coming over with the camera? :D)

Thanks, shes coming over tomorrow. I really want some pics too, just so I have some reference for when she gets bigger. Ill post pics as soon as I get them. But judging from some other peoples posts and pics. Im guessing he is about 3-4 months, no more than that.

Seems to be doing good so far, he has eaten plenty. Basks a lot but does move around. Has been rubbing his right eye a lot. Ive read that it could be dehydration or something in his eye. SO i have been hitting the misting a little more than I normally would.

So here are some pics of my new guy. If anyone has any idea on an age guesstimate I would appreciate it. Also any input on the cage. Ive had chams before so the cage should be good. Ive just never had a cham this young.

He still doesnt have a name, me and the girl are still thinking. I wanna see what suggestions my niece comes up with.

Aww what a cute little chameleon! She's so tiny. I can't wait to see more pictures and until she grows up :)
