Goodbye Molly

Well my chameleon loving friends, I have been scarce the last week or so and it is due to the recent loss of a very dear member of our family.
Molly, our amazingly gentle, loving and sweet retired greyhound has ended her (thankfully) short-lived battle with liver cancer.
I can't believe how quickly these tumors grew. She was 8 and there was no good answer for her (the largest tumor had grown to the size of a loaf of bread in only a few weeks!). This last weekend she declined so quickly.
We had fluid drained from her abdomen and put her on narcotics to manage any pain and spent Friday and Saturday saying goodbye.
Sunday morning our wonderful vet gave her an injection and she relaxed in my arms and went to sleep.
We miss her so much, Molly taught us a great deal....mostly about living in the moment, and her passing reminds us to embrace who and what we have and love like crazy while we can!
I am sharing this with all of you because I believe it is an important element in my grieving.
We are doing okay and are so comforted by the fact that Molly is no longer suffering.

You'll notice I have hair in this picture....it's a few years old and I hadn't started shaving my head yet:).

Sorry for your loss. It really is horrible how fast their tumors can grow and they are taken from us, I went through a similar situation last year. Wishing you and family the best.

Sweet Molly.........

So sorry about Molly............I firmly believe that the love between a pet and it's owner, when it is as strong as yours is with Molly, is a bond that can never broken....even with death. She will always be with you :)

So sad to hear about your loss. Losing a loved one is very hard. You are very lucky to have 8 years of memories of her. Good Luck my Friend........

I'm so sorry that you lost Molly. Its never easy losing a pet.
She was lucky to spend time with you before this happened.
Keep your memories of her in your heart.

yea it is always hard. about three years ago i lost my boxer to cancer she was a great dog. it was one of the hardest things iv ever done, taking her to the vet to be put to sleep.

Its sad to hear of someone losing a friend. In the present you live with the loss, but eventually your memories of the good times will prevail. Its not a thing you can rush or force; it will happen naturally.

It is fortunate that you had a brief opportunity to say goodbye.

I have had many dogs in my life, but the hardest one to lose was my sighthound. Like your greyhound, my wolfhound was very special and was more like having a friendship with a person and not a dog.

I am so sorry to hear that. I lost my 9 year old pit bull a few months back and it was to cancer also. It is a hard thing to go through. My condolences.

Brad, you have my deepest sympathy and I am so sorry for your loss. Being an Italian greyhound owner myself, i know how hard it must be to cope with the loss of such an incredible animal. My heart grieves for your loss, and i hope that in time, your and your family can heal.
