Goodbye Gus.

Gus wasn't doing too well the past few weeks, he quit eating and when he did eat, it was barely any food. So I started him on a ReptaBoost regamine to see if it helped. It seemed to perk him up a bit, but not enough to get him to start eating again. I tried absolutley everything to get him to eat, but he just wouldn't take anything. I purchased Gus June 2, 2012 from PETCO, after I saw the associates being quite rough with him. He came home and lived a great yet short life with me, or so I like to believe it was. I had to leave town this past week to go to a cousins wedding and my grandfathers memorial in Wisconsin and I wasn't there to check on him and give him his ReptaBoost like normal. He seemed to hold on until I got home to say goodbye, but not long after I got home. I found him laying in his plant in his cage listless and limp. I picked him up and misted the cage and set him back in hoping he would respond. I then picked him up and tried to give him a bit of ReptaBoost, but he just refused to take any of it. He ended up passing away in my hands and releasing his bowels minutes later. Its a hard loss, he was my very first Jackson's Chameleon and I learned quite a bit on how to properly care for a montane species. Someday, I hope to care for a similar species just like him. He was the most calm, and accepting Chameleon I have ever met. He didn't mind being held and he didn't mind if I was poking around his cage to pick up dropped leaves or walking past other Chameleons. The only thing he despised was the camera being stuck in his face and my dog jumping around while I held him. He was such a great Chameleon and I will never forget his amazing attitude. He will be dearly missed in my household and I am happy that I have many photos to remember him.

Here is a photo of Gus the day that I brough him home.

So sorry to hear. My condolances. I had my cat die in my arms after being run over a few years ago. Its terrible to have your pet die in your hands. Very sad. I feel for you. Hope you find a new baby to fill the void.

Thanks so very much. I do not intend to fill the void of his loss, he will always be part of my family even with his presence not being here. :)

Oh Zac. :( I am so saddened to read this thread, and I am so sorry you lost Gus. I remember how excited you were to be getting your own Jackson. There is something different about Jacksons, they are so calm and gentle and so accepting of everything. Sending condolences. Tiff xx

Sorry to hear about Gus, he sounds like a very good chameleon. Glad he got to spend his best months with you though. RIP Gus.

Thank you so very much Tiff. I was so happy to have a Jackson's Chameleon. I wish that I had him for much longer, but even with such a short period of him being with me, it was an amazing experience!

I am so sorry to hear about Gus! I'm glad that you were able to say goodbye to him, though I know it was hard on you to have to watch him pass away. You gave him a great home and I'm so happy that you saved him from those mean people who were rough on him. RIP Gus! You will be missed!

I am very sorry for your loss. He was very beautiful. My Nosy Be passed away in my hands too, I know that pain all too well. I hope you can look back and smile at the times you two had together - he will always be with you :)
