Good Eggs?

Hi everyone -

I keep reading and reading hoping I'll find something that helps, but to no avail.

My Veiled Chameleon Cammie laid 39 eggs 4 months ago, how can I tell if they're fertile? They're all a little "off-white" - and soft to the touch. I have had them in the incubator since she buried them at a humidity of about 80 and a temp of about 74.

Any comments/suggestions or help is so greatly appreciated!

there is a way to candle light them... go in the closet with an egg and a candle. put the candle behind the egg and look through it... if its pink it mean that there is something growing.. im not sure what the other colors are.. maybe someone can help me out here.

Did you breed her? If you did and the eggs are still looking good after 4 months then they are probably fertile.

I agree. There is a great chance after four months they are fertile. I would not candle eggs. You really dont see much, even full term, and you can ruin the egg/embryo inside from moving it around. Just wait it out. You dont have too much longer

Hi Guys! Thanks for the messages - and help. Yes, we did breed her - successfully a few times in one week. I tried to candle (before I saw the rest of these messages) and didn't really see anything - but as noted - they're still quite round - a little soft to the touch - and only one molded, and I took it out of the container right away....

So I take it the color (off-white) and a little soft to the touch is how they're supposed to look? We've had our veilds for quite sometime and are completely prepared to have beautiful little babies - I just want to make sure we're doing it right....

On another note - our two panthers have successfully mated as well. How long is the incubation period for veilds vs panthers?

ya if its been four months, they are fertile..they go bad within two weeks in a perfect incubator if they are no good..

About the same. 9 months is good average. 255 to 270 days is my average on both species.

Ive had panther eggs go full term, sweat and then do nothing while others were hatching. I cut open the eggs to find nothing but mushy yolk. Sorta like cottage cheese but a little harder, yuck!! No embryo inside.

Awe, that sucks! Sorry to hear that! I'm hoping these will make it.... my female veiled is about to lay again - I guess these ones will go in the shoe box in the closet, the incubator is full....

I had 2 pygmy eggs go full term, sweat and then just molded away - it was quite sad, as my female pygmy had not made it after she laid three eggs...
