Took Mo to the vet today. update & question

Hi Again,
We are bringing our young male Panther("MO")
To the vet tomorrow for what seems to be a respiratory infection.
We tried to use reptaid, and it did seem to really help , but he seems to have developed the symptoms again, gaping, occasional popping sound, some lethargy. Are some antibiotics better than others ,and or safer than others? I am bringing him to the only reptile vet in our area, and I don't know how much experience he has had with chameleons, so I want to have as much information as possible!!
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I'm sorry to hear about Mo. Certain antibiotics work on different types of infections. Your vet should do a culture and sensitivity test to see what kind of infection Mo has and which antibiotic will work on that type infection. Keep him very well hydrated when on antibiotics. Also anytime you go to the vets it's a good idea to take some fresh poop for a fecal.

Here's a few older threads about RI's.

Thanks for your help and for the links! There's a lot of good info there!
He seems so much better this morning, he drank water for 10 minutes straight!
I feel bad having to take him to the vet and stress him out, but I better be safe, and take him. Thanks again! Everyone has been so helpful on these forums!:)

It's always better to take them to a vet. Chams are notorious for not showing signs of sickness until it's almost too late! Sorry to hear about mo-looking forward to what the vet has to say! Sending some love mo's way.

Thank you, that's sweet of you!! :)I will post an update later today.

Took Mo to the vet today Update & question

So I took Mo to the vet, and she had very little experience with Chameleons.
She looked in his mouth , and said she didn't see any signs of infection, but I asked for an antibiotic just incase. She prescribed TMS-sulfatimethoxazole liquid 240 mg./5ml for 10 days with a little yogurt. Has anyone heard of this medication? Also do you think its okay to give the medication on a wax worm? I know your not supposed to give wax worms a lot, but was hoping to give him one a day for his medication. He will reliably eat the worm right when I offer it, he hurries down to the front of his cage and eats it right away! its very cute!! He's also good about eating his crickets too! Any info and advice on the antibiotic would be great!

I don't know about the antibiotic, but is inject the worm rather then just put it on it. Did she at least do a fecal?

Yes, but I had to ask for it. I will get the results back in a few days. have you heard of the yogut? I was wondering if it would be good to dust a cricket with my pb-8 probiotic I take? or should I try to find a probiotic for reptiles?
