hi! i'm going to hawaii (oahu) in a little less then a month and would love to photograph some jackson and potentially bring some home if i can get the paperwork passed. can anyone tell me where to look or any tips on finding them? ill be in Honolulu for 4 days and the north shore for 4 days

Look at post #6 in the below thread that I responded to....pm me if you need anymore info. Locals seem to spot them without too many problems and I have friends there that can help in locations.

I had a great and fun time there and when I went it was rainy and I spent more time on hikes on my butt in the mud as I was too busy looking in trees for them instead of where I was going and tripping over my own feet. They are harder to spot than people let on :)

I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and so I can at least let you know the type of area they seem to thrive in here. with each Island, the climate changes a lot depending on which side of the Island you're on ( windward or leeward).
Also, the elevation changes temp. and rain fall.
So here on the Big Island, Jacksons live in the higher elevation, Waimea is a windward town that sits at 2,760 feet above sea level. The Temp.= Lows range from 64°F - 66°F and highs from 78°F - 86°F. and rain fall is an average precipitation is just 12 to 20 inches.
Anther good tip is to go out at dust or even in the dark with flashlights. Don't be stealthy, Make noise. They will be sitting toward the end of a branch and you will see their eyes with the flash light when they wake up and look at you. Hope this helps.
