Going overboard.

I’m new to this site. Not new to chameleons. I made this new cage for a panther chameleon I don’t even have yet and prob won’t be able to use for awhile! But, It’s 4’ x 4’ x 28” and It’s a monster! Built with cedar and painted black for aesthetics, I even made a table for it to sit on(since the folding table I was going to use is to small). It will also be painted black. I’m going to use some sort of hard plastic for the back and floor and I’ve found square oil change trays For the drainage at the bottom. Let me know what you think!

Looks awesome. As a suggestion, if you decide to go bioactive, make the bottom and a foot up the sides using acrylic panels/poly carb panels. Looks great and when done right, 100% waterproof.

Thanks! I ended up getting something similar to polycarbonate to use for the back. I’m thinking about using spray foam to give the middle some dimension. As well as some spots for plants. But, you say I could make the bottom box out of poly-carb? Does it have to be 12”? I made a small door at the bottom that is only 6” to remove/clean whatever is down there.

Couple updates. Seems like I’m going bioactive! I made a box out of poly-carb. (It just barely fits in through the front of the cage) but, it does fit! I pieced it together and caulked the seams. And, have begun the process of painting it with flex seal. (That shits expensive!) I’ve also decided to make the background a living wall! Any advice would be much appreciated on my next steps!

I say a foot because that's really how much you need in order to establish proper layering of the bioactive substrate from top to bottom. But it's not to say that you can't do it with the depth you have now. I'm sure you could make that work. Looks great dude!

The tallest I’ll be able to make it is 10” with an extension along the back and sided tapering to the front. That should be sufficient.

Finished foaming all three panels yesterday. (With the help of my brother). I decided to foam the two side panels as well (it was cheaper that buying cork bark) this thing is loaded with ledges and pots for plants. I can’t wait to see it all finished!!!

Been a long process with shaping things just how I wanted and dry times. But, this thing look amazing!!!
A couple notes: I did use flex seal on the spray foam in order to attach the coco fiber. I slathered it on pretty thick, but it is holding up rather well, I’d say! I’ve never done this before, so it’s all new to me.
I am getting ready to disinfect these branches and was wanting to know what kind of soap would be best? Or, I had thought about using white vinegar. Let me know your thoughts.
