Georgie's Not Well

I'm sorry for your loss. from the continuous vomiting, it sounds like she may have been too impacted. the substrate is certainly suspicious as it is all too common in the forum to see GI issues from substrates. and if that was the case surgery would have been the only option and it never sounded like she was a good candidate for anesthesia and surgery.

if there comes a time when you are ready to try again, spend some hours first browsing through the forums. there is so much information here of what is proper vs. improper husbandry. I wish you the best and we are here for you!

Your poor baby. All of that does not sound good. Maybe she had a reaction to the Baytril. Are you sure the dose was correct? I will keep her in my prayers.

I just want to address this—a reaction to the Baytril itself is unlikely, but since IMO she was completely obstructed, there was just no more room at all for anything else being pushed into her GI tract, particularly a fluid. I think you would have seen the identical reaction even if it had just been water that you gave.

I definitely plan on trying again as I really enjoyed the time I had with Georgie. Was just a bit misinformed is the issue, in a nutshell. I am going to speak with the manager of the pet store I purchased Georgie from and advise them that they should not be recommending the substrate (coconut husk, in my case) for any chameleon as the results of using it are just plain not fair, not to the Cham or to the new owners! Had I just found this forum before I adopted my sweet little girl, I might not be sitting her without her and blaming myself for not doing more to prevent what happened. Now, I am even more determined though to make sure I have everything PERFECT when I do decide to give it a try again. My fiancé has been great and said not to beat myself up because, as we have both found, this type of demise is not uncommon among chams. Knowledge is power and even he said WE will be more prepared for our next little guy or girl. I think Georgie converted him because he didn't want anything to do with her care until she became sick. ;-)

Quick little funny from Georgie

Just wanted to share a little funny moment provided by my lil Georgie! One thing about Georgie is that she would climb out of her home when the door was open and climb onto my hand, fully expecting a juicy bug. Twice when she had done this, she eyeballed my fingernail on my ring finger. You see, I am a junkie for nail art and when I get my nails done, I always have my nail lady put some sort of cute design on both of my ring finger nails. Well, Georgie eyeballed the little black and white flowers on my nails and before I knew what she was doing, she flicked her tongue out at one, I am assuming because she thought the design was actually some juicy little bug. Imagine my amusement when she realized she had snagged nothing but a mouthful of air and turned and hissed at me, not once but twice, lol! I think that will always be my fondest memory of her! Thanks for the funny, Georgie! You are missed!
