George is going to the vet today

Our George is going to the vet this evening and I'm so nervous. Since we finally found a vet that seems to know chameleons we have decided to take him in for fecal testing (which he was nice enough to provide a sample today) and blood work to try to investigate his edema. He is healthy and fine otherwise, but it would be nice to find out why he has such bad gular edema. Not sure whether we will find anything, but its worth looking in to. I am just so worried about them drawing his blood. I dont want him to be in pain. But hopefully its for the best.

Here are a couple pics of his edema. I have tried a few things to remedy this over the past several months, but nothing helps.

Hope all goes well with George at the vets. Don't worry about drawing the blood. My chams have just about all had blood work. It's a bit uncomfortable for them but not painful. I would think kind of like with us. ;) Keep us posted.

Good luck with the vet visit. I hope everything goes well, and that you get the answers to his edema problem. He's a good looking guy. :)

Thanks. He had blood drawn and they are also doing fecal tests on his and monty's samples that we brought in. Hopefully we hear back soon. George did so good and everyone at the vet just loved him and were so surprised with how friendly he is. He was a really good boy.

I hope all goes well Rachelle. He's such a pretty boy! Good luck George!!! I'm glad he did so well yesterday. Keep us posted. :)

XXXX my fingers for the little guy - I know sometimes we feel bad for what we sometimes need to do to them, I always dread hydration injections on some of the really sick ones that come here, but it really helps them, George knows you love him :) he will forgive you ;) he is SO handsome !!

Thanks everyone. He is definitely not a happy camper today. Last night when we brought him home, he bolted to the highest point in his cage and slept on the hanger of his pothos plant, he is still in the same spot and doesn’t look like he plans on moving any time soon. Poor guy he didnt like being poke with needles. They drew blood and then they gave him fluids afterward to help him recover from the blood draw.

Poor George. I hope he feels better from the sticks real soon. I've never had a vet give fluids due to drawing blood. Hope you get some answers from the test results.

Thanks everyone, he did finally perk up later in the day. He didn't eat much (2 isopods) but did start to get a bit too adventurous. I was really busy working and noticed him decide to roam....

Then he started to climb the screen tube and it fell over a bit......

And of course right when I was on my way to go get him he fell, luckily he fell on a fuzzy slipper and carpet but it did make my heart skip and make me feel like a bad mom. That's what I get for letting a boy have a little adventure.

He is so cute! Glad your slippers were there to cushion his fall. Sounds like he's feeling a little better. :)

Blood and fecal are all normal.............and the mystery goes on. I try to say the money was spent for some peace of mind, but not sure that is the case.

Have you gotten the results back from the testing?

I know what you mean about spending $$ on vets, like human docs, half the time
I scratch my head and wonder if they really know what they are doing!!

At least my vet will consult with others who know more about chams, and
that is being a good scientist :)

I have given up on trying to figure out what causes the edema in my chameleon. I have had him almost two years now and he had it for about 1 1/2 years plus before that. My chameleon's bloodwork was ok too when I was trying to find out the cause. I say live and live at this point!!! Yours seems to be quite healthy other wise. Mine has other issues as well, but just turned 6 years old.
