i have noticed that lots of keepers (including myself) complain about the eye health of our animals. i just wanted to know if it was because of the animals becoming more and more homozygous as the gene pool is getting smaller. any info will help.

I personally feel 100% sure that we human keepers are directly and indirectly causing it because we do not know what the chameleons true needs are! We are learning, that is for sure! A lot of progress has been made!

I do think you have a point with inbreeding though! I constantly keep an eye out for reoccuring health problems with chameleons here on the forums! Strive to find the common denominator! Chameleons that come from breeders who do line breeding often seem to have more health problems! Eye problems included!
