Right now, I have a veiled girl, I love her very much I would like to get a male panther in the future. I want to know how much harder they are than veileds.
Not gonna lie, I took me some time to get things right in the enclosure I have right now. More time than I would like to admit... But now, I have the enclosure packed with safe plants, I have correct lighting and a misting system that mists two times a day. She is healthy, doesn't want to leave the enclosure like she used to, when her enclosure was wrong.
What's the behaviour of a panther? How different are the colour changes when they are mad etc.? I only know that they are not chewing on plants that much (or not at all). Is a fogger ABSOLUTELY required?
Hi! Since you’ve gotten thru with your veiled girl, having a male panther will be like a walk in the park. The husbandry is very similar. The biggest species difference is panthers like humidity levels a bit higher. The biggest gender difference is you can feed him just a bit more and his basking temp should be a warmer 85F. I have 2 veileds and 3 panthers and due to having such a small house, I’ve had to compromise on humidity and it stays around 40-50%. I feed all of my chameleons 3 days a week the equivalent of 3-4 feeders, but I give the boys an extra bug. All get the same treats on treat day. I’m in Florida and it just isn’t possible for me to achieve a night temp low enough to boost humidity, so I do not fog at all. I have automatic misting systems (Mist Kings) and do run 2 15 second mistings during the night for a very slight humidity boost. Almost forgetting another difference is that panthers do not generally eat their plants. Some do take a chew on a branch or lick, but no leaf eating like our veiled beauties do. Of course no worry about egg laying. lol. The hugest difference that I’ve had with my panthers, both male and female, is that they are not always ready to attack and some have been almost overly friendly. Not everyone has the same experience, as each animal’s personality is unique, but all 4 of the panthers I’ve had/have are super sweet and a couple have been overly friendly and if I didn’t know better, I’d think they really like me. One very important thing to take note of is to buy only from a breeder with a solid reputation. I believe all of the breeders who sponsor the forum have proven themselves to be awesome. You might pay a few extra $$, but believe me, it is well worth it! https://www.chameleonforums.com/sponsors/?tag=chameleons
