My Rocco is a fussy little four month old veiled..
Who hates crickets just as much as I do :( ... He's used to locusts ya see, but obviously varied diet an all I want crickets for him to munch too, iv attempted a few times now but nothing! I put them in a tub half way up his viv where he can see them and refresh them but he just looks at them like.. No way am I eating those!!
Should I cut down on his other feeders to try and persuade him? Lol..

My Rinty refused to eat crickets for a while, loves the locusts and worms much more too..........I just had to be strong and only offer him crickets until he was eating them up like a good boy, then he gets a locust or two as a reward.
He was a few months older than Rocco when he went on a proper strike and I had to take action, but he went longer than 2 weeks not eating. Now he knows the score though and he goes straight for the crickets when he sees them. (this may be something to do with using bug burger now too).
I advise only offering crickets to see how long it takes him to crack, it's worth it to know he'll eat what you give him :)

Ahhhh :) thankyou very much!
I think our UK chameleons are just used to the finer things.. I.e locusts!! Lol
he's gonna get a clear out and a move round tomorrow so I will be strong!!
:-( bet I crack before he does haha.. There gutloaded with sweet tatties,carrots.. Spring greens, celery.and anything else I can scavange from the kitchen including a bug grub.. But I May try the bug burger if all else fails lol...
Thanks again and apologies for bumping but I had a fair few views and was no closer to the answer! Lol

Neither of mine will eat crickets out of a dish. Super worms, sure. Roaches, sure.
Even when crickets are in the dish with other insects - they pick the others out and leave the crickets. Have to let them roam.

also, my veiled stopped eating crickets. And for about a week and a half I tried not feeding him for a couple days, then giving him crickets. Nothing, he would not go for them. He eats Dubia just fine, but not crickets yet. Oh well.

Lol, they definitely like the finer things. I cracked once because I was worried he might just not eat anything, but he snapped the locust up so fast it was like he hadn't seen food before. I decided he wouldn't trick me like that again......
If he eats other variety like silks and roaches then there is no problem, but my Rinty still won't eat roaches (I've decided to let him off that one, I don't have the patience to try it again).
Crickets are easy to gutload, and cheap and convenient - that's really the only reasons it's worth doing. Good luck :)

Ooh I haven't tried roaches.. The crickets make me nervous enough!
A roach gettin free would have me sleeping in the garden! Haha
I thought about letting him hunt for them but wouldntt they just run around the bottom? How would he find them? He's normally at the top lol...
I'm pretty determined! So he can like it or lump it... For a bit haha
thanks :)

He eats calci worms and butterworms... But this months shipment looks to have been lost in the post!
Damn you royal mail...

sometimes they go to the bottom, mine will hunt them there though. But often they hang out at the top corners, especially if there's leaves and branches for them.
