Funny Behavior

I just wanted to get everyones opinion on the behavior my 7 month old male veiled chameleon is presenting.

He loves to come out of his cage, he climbs up and down the door until I open it and he climbs right out no problem. It's actually really funny to watch. It's almost like he begs to come out. He is very social, so I am not too concerned about this....

I just replaced his UVA/UVB lamp and he has been going crazy. He exhibits extremely vibrant greens and blacks, and he makes himself SUPER THIN. He stands on his hind legs and raises arms towards to light and puffs up. He almost looks like he is working out because he rocks back and forth up towards the light. Is this just him being happy about a new lamp with stronger rays or is there something wrong I am missing?

Did you replace the lamp with the same kind?

When they "pancake" like that it means they are trying to maximize the amount of UV they are getting by increasing their surface area.

It could be either way, but it sounds like (because of his coloration) he is digging being under his new light :)

If his appitite is good, and his poop and urates look normal, he is a happy chamie :D

And yes, they do act funny sometimes, just wonder what he must think about you!! ;)

Here is a pic of him from a few minutes ago. I did replace it with the same bulb....just new. The other was as old as he was. I think he likes it!

No, off and on since I put in the new light yesterday. When I open the door, he comes right out to me.

Could the bulb be bad and he isn't getting enough UVA/UVB rays?

So....I just watched him snag a cricket and as soon as he was done, he pancaked out, started rocking, and was flexing his tail in and out. He is cracking me up!

I got him from a local pet shop, who deal in reptiles and other exotics. I had her order him for me from one of her trusted breeders. No more Corporate pet stores for me. I lost my female to cancer because of pet stores. I now have another female and got her from my same lady. She even hand picked my female.

He is beautiful...my veiled will do that when he bask under the bulb that hangs over our Anoles enclosure, he will get very thin, blow up and lean slightly away from the bulb, and what is funny is he will hold one front foot up the entire time he is under the light, his color will get really dark when he does this.
