Fruit flies

Hi my chameleon has fruit flies all inside her enclosure and she doesn’t eat them bc there to small but idk why they are in there and how to get rid of them. They escape and fly around my room and it’s very annoying. Anyone know what to do?

They are probably soil gnats and are the bane of our existence as chameleon keepers. There are solutions though, but not one is going to be 100%. I have 5 double sized bioactive enclosures, 3 leopard gecko bioactive tanks, a couple of bins of extra isopods and even keep my roach colony bioactive, so needless to say I can go crazy from the cursed gnats. I have and run two Katchy’s. I have on hand sticky traps. Have little vinegar traps. Am awaiting delivery of a few carnivorous drosera capensis (sundew) plants (ordered from Etsy) and when all else fails, I turn to using Mosquito Bits. Sometimes in late winter, I’ll get some mantid ooths to hatch out in my enclosures. Of all methods, I’d say the Mosquito Bits are the most effective since it actually goes into the soil where they hatch and grow. It is safe to use for your chameleon. It is basically a bacteria that affects only mosquito larvae.

What about the gnats? Does it effect them?

Gnats won't harm or effect your cham at all... but they will drive you slightly crazy, and might kill your plants if it gets too bad. I'd highly recommend the mosquito bits, it's the only thing that really works for me.

Thanks I also have a high resistance to animal stuff (I have a loud tortoise that can’t sit still) but flying insects that crawl on you and fly in your ear are my cryptonite
