free range

I like to let my chameleon go out on his ficus tree and branch and he ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT. The only issue is, when I put him back in the cage…he looks very sad and stares at his huge ficus tree right outside. I want to ensure that he's getting enough exposure to his UVB light and heating lamp (especially the UVB light). How often should I allow him to free range weekly (# of days per week and hours per day)? I have a juvenile male ambilobe panther chameleon.

I'd love to make him a full time free range, but I am so limited in space. :-( When would be the right time to upgrade his cage? He's in an 18x18x30 cage. he has enough room to move around….just wondering for future reference.
