Free range feeding

The one obvious downside to free ranging is feeding variety. I was thinking of setting up a feeding cage for him to let bugs free roam/fly in for feedings. Any thoughts on this? What else have you guys done that free range?

40-50 gallon tote of sticks and food, with a few sticks ran across the top. AKA 4-6" gap so the food cant get out, but the cham can get in. Make sure its opaque unless you like tongue prints on the sides.

Hey james, are you thinking about the green banana roaches we talked about for future? I agree with Nightanole, it's an easy way to feed and if any of them escape, if I remember correctly you don't live in Florida? So they will not survive and breed within your house. Within around 24-48 hours the adult green bananas I have had of any species, die off once outside of their specific enclosure. They honestly need the specific requirements within it. I will be getting a Costa Rican variety (not sure if I explained that to you once I talked about replacing the colony) which that species has the bright colors of the regular smaller variety but is much closer to the size of the giants.

@nightanole so are you saying have a cave sort of thing that he can go in and dump the food in there? That's what I was kind of thinking if so. I guess it'd need some light to get through so he could see. Do you think he'd regularly go inside of something to look for food like that?

@Andee yeah i'm thinking about adding the green bananas, sticks, and isopods. Just making room and finishing up some stuff before i jump into more bugs. The more variety the better though. I'm up in PA, i had some green bananas escape in his old cage, they lasted for awhile, but i found one dead once it got out. My cats usually catch things too. It's more for my girlfriend's peace of mind than mine lol. The bigger ones sound great, i know they usually stay pretty small unfortunately. I think the GBR actually look pretty cool, no one would think they were roaches unless i told them.

No i do not have a cave...

Right below a house window i have a 40 gallon tote (like what everyone raises their dubias in) with the lid off. I put a few sticks in it. I then put sticks across it. I make sure the sticks in it do not get more than a few inches from the sticks across it. When the cham goes to look out the window, he will see bugs in the tote.

you can not use clear sided totes or the cham will just try eat the bugs through the sides.
