Fred update from visit with the specialist

Well, Fred went to the Herp specialist in Orlando yesterday (Dr.Alfonso-he is awesome!!). We finally seen the fired up side of him, (we have never seen him upset or trying to bite) I wish we would have taken pictures because I'm sure it will be a very long time before we see him like that again(which I know really is a good thing)!! The vet said overall he looks GREAT!! Its funny we put him in a snake bag (like the ones they send u home with at the reptile show) and when the vet took him out he was in a complete shed ( a very nice healthy one, nothing like his last shed!!! I swear he wasn't shedding a lick when we placed him in the bag!!) Unfortunily he wouldn't give us a fecal for the trip, we wanted the specialist to see to what extent his infestation with Coccidia and pinworms were, but no such luck. So the vet said if the vet that did the fecal won't let us have the ponzuril instead of Albon then as a last resort we can get that vet to "trasfer the records" from the fecal and he will call it in for us. We have the panicur to use for the pinworms. Also, remember (for those of u familiar with Fred) the sore spot on the tip of his bottom jaw? Well when he inspected inside his mouth this was actually an infection!!! He cleaned out the gross smelly cottage cheese looking stuff (which was about the size if 1/2 carat diamond, so now fred has a V notch, he gave us an enzyme to put on it 3X's a day (Zymox). He said if we hadn't told him that he would have never believed he was "infested" with coccidia. (Not meaning u can tell a Cham has parasites by just looking at them but as bad as the general vet made it sound he believes it may be over exaggerated because they havent ever done a fecal on a cham!
On a lighter subject we got two new Chams from the Repticon show in Orlando from FLCHAMS, they are awesome!! We got a boy and a girl both Panthers, we will upload some pics in a week or two after they get settled in. :D

I bet it is a relief to know what is wrong and how to fix it.
Yes!! It was good to hear also that he overall looks very healthy. He said he is a rarer sub-species of flap necks. Because of this u don't see pics of what hes suppose to look like very often!!!

Be really careful not to give coccidia or pinworms to the new chams via cross contamination.

I am glad Fred is doing so well! Sounds like you are doing a great job.

Thank you!! We are thanks to you, and the others who were so kind to teach us!!!!Yes, we are being extremely cautious!!!! They are in seperate bedrooms and share NOTHING!!! We always wear gloves when dealing with anything to do with Fred (Latex) and luckly my work is in surgery, therefore I have up to date training on cross contamination, sterilization, etc. I was even cautious to the idea of even getting them until fred was taken care of, but we really didn't want to pass up the opportunity!!(I wanted to avoid shipping if possible)

See! as others and I have said, You cant have just one! congats and enjoy, this is a great place for info and such and Chams are COOL!

Yes very addicting!! I love this forum, without it Fred would be dead by now!!

Glad that Fred's going to be ok. Dr. Alfonso is GREAT!!!!! I feel you are wasting your money to see a vet who doesn't have a great deal of experience with chameleonsl. Also you can over night a fresh poop to Dr. Alfonso in a zip lock bag with a moist tissue and that will save you a trip to Orlando......that's what I do because I'm 2 hous away. Good lucky with your new guys! Look forward to seeing pictures. Jann

Thanks for telling us about him!!! Yes, he told us we could overnight it, did he tell u the story about a "stranger" mailing him like 15 samples of poop without warning??!! It was hilarous- he said to give them a heads up when we put it in the mail,LOL!!! We are going to wait until we get a day that all 3 poop and let him check our newbies too!! (we got them from FLCHAMS, so I'm sure they are clear but it doesn't hurt to check!!!!
