Do I want fly BB pupae or spikes?I was hoping o keep them refrigerated and hatch out a few at a time.

Thanks,
Virginia

Spikes then, you will gain a bit of time. Regardless, they will last a few weeks in the frig and the hatch rate will decrease the longer you go. They can live for about 7 days once hatched and fed with honey and a water source.

Thank you....I just placed an order for 500 spikes. Hope my boys will eat them...lol

Do they need to be gut loaded? Can I feed the flies bug burger, fruit and veggies along with the honey? Do they need to be dusted?

Sorry for all of the questions. I found out by accident that my veiled and my bearded dragon love flies when my Phoenix worms turned into flies.

Agreed that spikes would be the way to go. I went with the pupae and ended up having a lot of them hatch out in the box on their way to me. I live in Texas though, and the temps were in the high 90's low 100's when they were delivered. I'd also recommend making sure the shipment contains a few cold packs.

Regarding gut loading and dusting, I did both. I gut loaded with a prepared formula from Mantispets.com, and dusted just before sending them to their death. My Jackson's LOVES them, and in fact is starting to shun other feeders. Good luck!

Well, I ended up having to get the pupae because they were out of spikes and I didnt want to wait almost two weeks to get them. The only feeders I can get locally are crickets, meal worms, calci-worms, and dubias. I really wanted the flies and the butter worms that I ordered. Someone from mantisplace.com contacted me vie email and I asked her if they would be ok being shipped here because I am in Texas and it is in the 90's right now. She said she would add ice packs and ship them and that they should be fine. I told her I wanted to be able to keep them refrigerated and hatch a small batch at a time because I only have two lizards that will eat them. She said I should be fine with the ice packs added. Hope she is right..

Rebecca from Mantisplace is the best place to get them.
FYI if you feed the flies they will leave brown "spit" all over your cage.

I don't gut load; I consider them sport and exercise.:D

Rebecca is who contacted me. She was really quick in responding to my reply and questions. I made the order after midnight last nigh and the order has already been shipped. So far I am very happy with their customer service. I can't wait to get them in. I love to watch Rebel hunt them down and catch them...:D

Rebecca and Mansitsplace are awesome. As far as if any hatch out on their way to you, it would depend on what shipping option you chose and how many ice packs will be included. I'm in Fort Worth, did not pay for the priority shipping, just went with their "feeder fly" shipping, and one cold pack. I think it ended up taking 2 or 3 days to arrive and some did end up hatching out on their way to me, but I still had a whole bunch that did not.

I use the fly food from mamtispets along w some orange to gut load flies. It is fun to watch them hunt flies. My Jackson loves them, but my panther isn't that interested.
