Flexariums?

My 1 year old male panther is currently in a 18" x 18" x 36" aliminium screen cage. He obviously need more space and I was planning to build my own but I've had no luck finding materials. Are flexariums good? I'm hoping to buy the biggest (260 gallon). I'm told they are ugly (they don't look it in the photos  ) but I don't really care - it's for his benefit not mine. Or is there something better than flexariums? As I have been told it is hard to maintain humidity and temp in these.

This is my 38gal..you can't really tell by the pics but the mesh is quite dark although you can see with your UVB tube and your normal basking lamp...

Here's a better pic (after I flooded my plants which have been replaced lol)

I wouldn't say there ugly just quite basic I guess.

Personally I do not like the Flexariums. It is purely they way they look that I am not fond of. I prefer a metal screen cage. 24x24x48

They work fine but you may need a stronger UV bulb like a reptisun 10 to make sure the light penetrates. It also makes it a little harder to see inside the cage.

A lot of people use them successfully. It is really a personal preference.

i agree, the low visibility factor is the main reason i dont use them any more..they are inexpensive though, and do serve good as a sunning/ acclimation cage..

yeah.. they can lose nails in a screen enclosure but like Ryans, mine arent that bad about climing the screen either... its usually seen in babys/ juvis when acclimating...there is the occasional adult screen clinger though...

hmm I would like to be able to see him easily. I also don't like the way the flexarium opens. Perhaps I will pass on that then...

those aliminium cages aren't cheap :( This is soo frustrating.

Also, Calvin is a mesh climber. But.. he hasn't broken any claws yet. Maybe I just need to add more things for him to cling on to, like vines. It could also be because he is trying to escape, which is understandable in this small cage that he's in.

i have all reptirarium and i love them they can be machine washed and they are cheap but visibility is not that great but you can pull the zippers open when you want to show your cham off for the money you cant beat them and it really cuts costs when you have thirty pluss cages metal gets expensive

ok thanks, but I think where you live, flexariums are cheaper. The 260 gallon one I was going to get will cost me £74 plus £10 postage. :(

if you can find a custom cage maker, you can ask for a slightly bigger screen holes. Unfortunately, i am not familiar with UK reptile market. So, i cannot suggest who to buy the cage from.

In US, however, www.cages.net gives you the option to use 1/8" mesh wire screen.
With that mesh, your chameleon's nail will not get stuck.

Just checked out that site - I like their cages and they do custum ones too, I wonder if they ship to the uk as with the current currency rate we would get a very good deal here in the uk.

Cheers. I was really hoping to get him something higher than any of those though. His is the height of the tallest one.

Just found this material on ebay to make a cage with... do you think this is a good material to make it with?
