This may explain why chameleons are white at night – it would help them conserve heat.

This makes really sense, never thought of that before

Good article and explains some things I´ve also noticed, except when they´re awake and not directly asleep. Differentiation in colors in body parts, i.e. one side light and one side dark, I´ve noticed it a few times, especially during outside time. Then you see lighter colors in their armpits or darker colors directed towards the sun.

However who I´m telling this

Glad it explained some things for you. I used to get a kick out of holding a leaf over the side of a Senegal chameleon and seeing the leaf pattern be on the chameleons side when you moved the leaf.
Bring that the Senegal was plain green as a rule, it worked well.
