first time breeding

a Friend of mine and i bred our chameleons, i have the female. any how we went halves on the incubator and necessities for proper incubation. My girl laid a clutch of 24 healthy looking eggs.. i'm a full time student and i put just about the same amount of study time into my cham that i do for school. the only thing im curious about is when you breed your female with someone else's how many of the hatch-lings would the males owner be entitled to usually? any info would be greatly appreciated...So thatnx ahead of time everyone

alright for sure cuz we were talking about going halves cuz we went halves on the incubator and he's tending to the eggs... think i'll end up doing my own thing from here on out though.,,

First you both should have agreed on what you plan to do before the mating. Olimpia and I have a join project going and we have agreed on every thing.

My next thing would be, if you guys are going halfs on the rest of it then, i would be going half's on the babies. jmo

Thankyou, yea that's what we did we spoke about splitting the clutch as well as the expenses. But he's already talking about keeping one of the Females in order to re breed her with the Sire of that clutch in order to get a purer line of his male... so thinking how should i take that... like he's gonna do his own thing eventually.. that's how things usually work the best.. we're definitely gonna have to go over the details.. any and all feedback is very helpfull

I'm new to breeding buy what your friend is proposing sounds like inbreeding to me. Jmho

that is exactly what he is proposing.. he has this wild idea or maybe it's more than that, but he said that is how one would get purer lines of dogs, or that's what he used to do with rotts...

I heard of a few breeders using the same cluth to breed again... I never heard of any problems from it anyway...

I can say that in the world of genetics that line breeding can lead to some pretty nasty genetic defects. However that being said at this point you have to consider that the female he will keep has a pretty good chance of having 45-50% different genetics then the father. now once he re-breeds these genetics back, the next clutch will be 68-75% of the father genetics so at this point he will want to stop breeding or introduce another line. (this is statistically speaking).
I do bring in an outside line every other generation to prevent any genetic issues. Also when I find a nice looking male we do agree on terms before. My female just layed 19 and the males owner was given some cash (Hey they pay gas so I can't complain) and the agreement e gets first choice of any males. I feel the cash is fair due to the fact that if there is an infertile clutch then what does he really get out of it?
Anyways, just my two cents here. I never claimed to be an expert.

Wow, that's exactly why purebred dogs have so many health issues. People breeding them improperly. I'm assuming he never got his rotties checked for hips, wobblers etc. He sounds like a backyard breeder that doesn't know what he's talking about. I would get everything on paper and have them signed so there aren't any problems in the future. This sounds formal but it avoids any misunderstandings as to who gets what and who is responsible for what.
