Well I know my female was due to be receptive any day now so I have been bringing my male over and showing him to her. The day before yesterday she was defensive hissed ..so back in his cage he went. Well today I noticed she was really showing off some blues and oranges so I brought him over to her and she kept her pretty colors and just stared him down so I decided to put him in there. She stayed the same color and she did the typical walk away and then he caught up with her hovered over her and grabbed onto her back with his claw. They are both virgins. Hes a little over 2years old and she is a year old.
It's been a few hours and they still haven't done anything other than him hovering over her, showing his awesome colors, doing the head twitch thing, and grabbing her back with his claw. She just sits there (not that she can move much with his claw holding her
) This is my first time breeding chams so my questions are.. Is this normal? approx how long does it take for a male to figure it out the first time? Is it ok to leave them both in the same enclosure all night together?... Or should I remove the male and try again tomorrow? She seems to be patiently waiting for him to get on with it (or get his claw out of her back
lol) and she isn't showing any signs of stress...
