First cham is here! Questions

My 3 month (and 17 day) old veiled chameleon arrived on Tuesday! He is one of Newton's sons from Flchams. Luckily I was paying attention because when the UPS guy dropped him off he didn't ring my doorbell  I'm glad I was paying attention because I heard his truck as it drove away!

I brought the box inside, opened, and saw my little Azrael (named after the Islamic Archangel of Death) for the first time :) I held his little plastic cup up to one of his vines and he was so cautious that he took almost ten minutes to climb out of the cup into his setup--my arm got tired! ;)

His first day he ate four crickets and I saw him drink--I was very happy! He was definitely afraid of me though because when I would step near his cage, he would shrink back and try to be a leaf. I expected that, of course, however. His second day I saw him eat 3 crickets, but there were two more in his cage that disappeared while I wasn't there, so I think (think being the key word) he ate 5 in all.

I was kind of worried, because I hear people saying their juvies eat 6-8 or more crickets daily. I've been hoping that its his stress for being in his new home and/or the fact that it is winter. Still, I stress out over it--I've gone into total daddy-mode!

Today I saw him drink again, but he hasn't eaten any crickets :( I've offered two and he hasn't been interested. I tried using a cup in his enclosure, too, but there was no response.

I've read about this happening many times, but it is none the less worrisome! I'm trying to put up some pictures, but I haven't done that before, so hopefully it'll work!

Please tell me how you think he is doing :) He looks somewhat dehydrated, to me? And if you have any help on feeding crickets please tell me (I'm getting roaches and silkies soon, too)! Its really hard to get them in his cage because they keep falling down to the bottom; very frustrating!

Thanks for checking Azzy out!

He's a very cute little guy. Reminds me of my little Luie when I first got him. Sometimes at first they are shy and don't want you to watch them eat. Give him a couple more days to settle in. Do you have a vet yet? It's always good to get a new cham check up or at least get a fecal done.......very improtant. If you'll answer the questions in the link above that Boca Jan gave you; everybody here will give you tips and info on keeping your little guy healty and happy. Jann

Nice looking little dude you have there! Are you letting him hunt his crickets or are you cup feeding him? And how big are the crix you are giving him?

I would be insane with anger is someone left a live animal on my doorstep in winter!! You are lucky you heard the truck!!

Thanks for the comments, everybody! I'm feeding him "medium" crickets--I'm not sure what their specific size is because I got them locally. I'm mostly letting him hunt them, but I tried cup feeding today. He didn't seem to notice at all, but I'll probably try again later on. I was so mad when the UPS person didnt ring my doorbell!

Here's the "How to ask for help" info. Sorry for not posting it before--I've been on this site long enough, I should've remembered to post it!

Cage Info:
Cage Type - All screen, I got it from cages.net. 24x24x42, It is on my desk and reaches fairly near the ceiling
Lighting - I am using a 100W ZooMed basking bulb (it is on a dimmer so it isn't too hot) and an 18" Linear ReptiSun UVB. They are on a timer set from 6AM-8PM.
Temperature - The basking spot is in the low-to-mid 80s. Usually right around 84F. The rest of his cage ranges somewhere in the mid-to-low 70s. Lowest overnight temp is in the high 60s. I measure the temps with a digital thermometer/hygrometer
Humidity - Humidity is 30% at lowest. I mist fairly frequently and can usually keep it at at least 40%. I create and maintain these levels via misting, a dripper, and I have two "humidi-mats". but they don't make any difference, so I am removing them. Humidity is measured with the digital thermometer/hygrometer.
Plants - I am using one nice schefflera that fills out his cage well. I have one small fake plant and four fake vines.
Location - His cage is located on top of my desk in my room. There is an air vent under my desk. The top of the cage is almost six feet off the floor

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Azrael is a male veiled chameleon. He is 3months and 17 days old. I have had him for three days, as of now
Handling - I have yet to handle him. I want him to get used to his surroundings and don't intend to handle him much, anyway. Even when getting him to his cage, I just held up his container and never touched him
Feeding - Right now I am feeding him medium crickets and I have roaches and silkworms on their way. I try to feed him as much as he wants--4 the first day, 5 the second, but he didn't eat any today. I have been feeding him about two hours after he wakes up and then every once in a while after that to see if he is interested in anything. At the moment the crickets are feeding on various fruits and vegetables; I will be going out to get a more solid gutload as soon as possible
Supplements - I am using RepCal with D3, RepCal without D3, and RepCal Multivitamin. I am not 100% certain as to my supplementing schedule, but I think it will go something like this: Plain calcium 5 times a week, D3 once a week, and multivitamin once a month. If you have an opinion on this please tell me! I've read a lot of different supplementing schedules, so I am a little unsure.
Watering - I water by misting and with a drip system. I mist usual 4ish times a day. I try to use at least 32oz per day. I have seen him drinking on two of the three days I have had him :)
Fecal Description - I have yet to see any of his droppings. This is another thing I was going to mention. Maybe they have landed in his schefflera because it is big and dense, but I haven't been able to find them. He hasn't had a fecal yet, but I am working on finding a local vet with cham experience.
History - Shipped here from Florida. He is one of Newton's sons from Flchams
Current Problem - Today he didn't eat anything and for the last two days he didn't eat a whole lot--4 crickets the first day, 5 crickets the second, and none today.

Hopefully that covers everything--if you have a question or concern, PLEASE ask/state it! I am such a worry wart about Azzy, its ridiculous

Everything sounds good. The pics show a little dehydration of his eyes. This is where it usually shows first. Just keep misting and dripping him and watch to see his eyes. When you find a fecal you will also see his urate...it should be white. If it is yellow/orange it means he isn't drinking enough and you may have to shower him.

Wow-that is a nearly perfect set of answers to that questionaire! You have done your homework. :) Leon-my male Veiled-arrived from FL Chams nearly 2 years ago, and if you asked Mike he would tell you that I called him every other day for weeks worried about my new baby cham! He will settle in! As long as there is poop-your baby is doing fine! :)

Phew! Thank you Juli! I've been obsessively reading about veileds for quite a few months, so I'm glad I have most of the right info :) And I just got a PM from Mike telling me to call him whenever if I need him, so I may very well do the same thing!

And Brad, thanks for that reminder! I hadn't thought of that issue yet, but I'll be careful from now on to be sure to check their sizes
