FINALLY ate out of my hand!!!

YAAAAAAY!!! :D
After 3 + months I finally did it!! got Smidget to eat a silky from my hand.
All my efforts paid off afterall!!
I did have to deviate from my usual taming method and stop feeding him for 3 days, offering food on my hand daily and keeping a foot or so away.
I was only getting puffed at, but that was better then getting hissed at and snapping at me.
So today, I try again, he hides from my hand, but is not hissing or even puffing up.
He is now looking at the silky on my hand more then me (very good sign).
After, like, standing there for so long my arm feels like it's going to sleep, he slowly turns his head to look at the prey dead on (he's going for it now!!) and lo and behold, snatches it right out of my hand.
I tried to follow with a crick, but just then my brother walked in and caused a distraction. So I just put the crick on a branch a few inches from him and he took it while I was watching.

This has made my whole week!! I am a VERY happy chammer :D

Thanks, Smidgie was my last hold-out who never had any of the fun my other guys had just because he refused to be tamed!!
Next thing, he will be wanting to spend the night on the free range :D

Congrats! I love the way you tell your stories, man :D

Thanks David, I was one of those kids who, in school, had a hard time keeping my assay's UNDER 1000 words  :o
She said, what I say in a paragraph, I could easily say in a sentence.
But I said, yes, but it would not be as interesting to read :D

Haha, cham nerd! Now I can describe myself more accurately with that term..

It is a cool connection with the chameleon, hand feeding. They kind of look at you while they chew :D

Man I had to go from your last thread to this one fast. I was hoping it wasn't the same cham who just pooped in your hand. It would be awful if he has to poop on your hand to eat out of it.

But I am very thrilled your last hold out is now willing to eat out of your hand. Good Job.

LOL!! that's funny. All this the first few hours of Saturday morning before my coffee :D

A big congrats! Keep working with him and he'll become a sweetheart. ;)

Thanks Jann,
I think so too, like I said, soon he will be begging me to come out and spend the night on the free range :)

I am going to try, once again, to get a good pic of him tomorrow morning
when he is basking.
I will open his door, and walk away, and zoom in on him from another room.

If he sees my camera, he will hide, and I will not see him again for hours!!

NICE:D he will be begging you for more in no time

Yep, I hope so JD.
I know how much he hearts silkies, and once I get him used to eating them
from my hand, I will open his cage door so he can come out for the first time.

Here is a pic of the Smidget mansion:

Well, I tried hand feeding again this morning and no luck!! at least he didn't hiss, and I think he has gotten over the biting and snapping thing.

This little guy is super stuborn and tempermental .

I have made progress for sure, but still have a long way to go with Smidget.
