Ficus Needs More Light

I have had trouble for a while keeping plants alive in my veiled chameleon cage. The lights are a 75 watt zoo med UVA basking light and a ReptiSun 5.0 18.5 inch UVB tube. Are there any other lights I can buy to provide more light to the ficus without hurting the chameleon?

Yes. There are linear bulbs made for growing plants that you can use. They can be found almost anywhere bulbs are sold.

EDIT: Also, ficus will drop its leaves if moved into different lighting, and regrow leaves that are more appropriate for that lighting, so if you havnt had it long, that may be what is happening. They are a little hard to keep alive without sun light though, im sure a plant grow light would really help it out.

ok

at the moment i have 2 extra fixtures one is a huge linear fixure that I use to use for my tegu it is at least 3 feet long and I do not think it would fit on my chams cage, the other is the dome type fixture are there any coil or or normal shaped lightbulbs that I could buy to fix the problem?

I am not sure. I wouldnt be surprised if they sold them, but Ive never seen them. I think you can get a linear fixture for about $5 at lowes or somthing if thats any help.

Its a 6500k which is the spectrum of light. HD and Lowes sell them for very cheap. You will need another fixture unless your uv linear hood will hold 2 bulbs. You can get a double fixture at the same stores for 20.00, for a 48"hood.

ps, yes you can buy a grow light bulb as well, but in the dome hood it will be specific to one plant, it has a tighter beam of light than a linear

I have trouble keeping a ficus alive too. My new favorite plant is a hibiscus! You can tell when it's sad. Water it and boom it's happy again. I've got them in practically all the cages now. Oh yeah and grow lights may work better for a ficus, but I have 16 fixtures on in my room.

Fiinally Bought A Grow Light

There was one at wallmart for $11 fixture and bulb even my chameleon seemed to like it he perked up when I turned it on
